Quick backstory on me.
First I'm new to this subreddit and the dating game in general. I'm 20 years old and I have been in a stable relationship since I was 15. Hell, back then I even used a wingman to help get the girl.
About 2 months ago I got back into the game (left my LTR). I spent a large majority of those 2 months working on building up confidence. I had scoped out my targets, and finally, about a week ago, I took a shot.
The Initial Approach
When I finally decided to make my move, I had caught the girl I was wanting sitting outside class. Without thought, I simply sat by her. From there, I started talking about the class, bsing with her over how mundane it was, and I had her laughing on/off the entire convo for 30mins until our class began. Solid! I didn't get her number, but when we had our next class period, I simply re-engaged in conversation, and non-chalantly received her number and a half-hug (lame) when the conversation was finished. That night we spoke of our interests, past, etc for some time. She told me she was a swimmer, and I mentioned the local pool. With that, we arranged plans for our first date.
The Date
At this point I felt as if I had her in the bag. I arrived early, as I had intended to work out prior to our meeting. When she came in, she caught me off guard looking much better than I expected. We went into the locker rooms to change, and as she caught eye of me in my swimsuit I saw a look of peaked interest, even to the point of her mentioning how "big" I was and joked how that could make me a poor swimmer (Yes, I am terrible at swimming). Everything started off well, with her explaining to me form as I pretended to be enthralled by the idea of being a good swimmer. Yet as I grew bored of that, I sat alongside the pool discussing topics. I brought up a big interest of mine, history, which is where I think things grew sour. She showed disinterest, but luckily I managed to recover and things seemed fine. We decided to head to the local trail and walk together for the remainder of the night.
As we left, I got into her car as she decided to drive. We arrived at the park and again, things were going quite fine. We chatted off/on, yet I started to dominate the conversation. As we approached the park, we sat for an hour, swinging and laughing, staring into eachother's eyes, yea that bs. It seemed solid, and after we marched off, I managed to jokingly pick her up, then casually place my arm around her for a very short duration. It was here where things started to get off though, as I sensed she disliked me having placed my arm around her, so I removed it. I again began to dominate the conversation more and more, I spoke intelligently and slowly, yet kept the conversation about myself. As we walked down to the creek, we sat by some rocks and things seemed a bit better. She mentioned she was cold, so at that time I put my arm around her again, pulling her closer... "I'm not that cold." She replied. 30mins pass by, with me telling her stories of my family, etc, and I receive what feels to be genuine interest.
We walked back to her car, things to me seemed ok. Although she offers me chapstick as my lips were chapped, and I oblige. I then make a joke of having 'herpes' which she disliked quite a lot. We ride back to my car, discussing music she likes which I'm not too fond of. When I get back, she gives me an actual hug, gets in her car, then makes it a point to wave frantically and happily at me. We had decided to hang out again with 2 friends of mine Saturday.
The Aftermath
I felt pretty lame, as I knew I had done a few corny things. I tried to maintain a constant conversation, and even though it was steady and not rushed, I don't know if that was wise as it centered around myself. I felt lame for the whole arm thing, and I felt pretty dumb about that joke. Yet, in all I was completely confident she'd want to hang out again. She had mentioned to me the night before she'd dress nicely the following day. I in turn, ignored it to appear disinterested, only complimenting her with a "you looked nice" in a text, as well as an apology over having been too busy to acknowledge her.
The following day, a day before our presumed date, I sent her a text.
"Hey, still interested in meeting up tomorrow? If you can make it you'll get to see my nice bowling skills! I promise I'm much more coordinated with bowling than swimming, and I've never came close to drowning at the bowling alley!"
9 hours later, I received this reply:
"Hey!! Sorry for taking forever to reply... been kinda busy today lol I would like to hang out with you guys tomorrow, but I have a big project due for comp. that I was gonna try to get finished & im gonna have a few other things i need to get done tomorrow..."
To which, I reply an hour later stating:
"I understand. I've been busy myself here lately. I also meant to tell you, I remembered the name of the book which I was talking to you about though."
This was roughly over a day ago, and no reply.
My Thoughts
First and foremost, I need help as to where I may have messed up. I'm completely fine if I should 100% drop this girl and never speak to her. Yet on the other side of the spectrum, I feel that I could attempt to re-engage in conversation when I see her outside of class again, and possibly try to negotiate another date from there. Which, if that fails, stepping away from this individual for good. My biggest issue isn't the approach, but more/less the date itself. I get off my game when there isn't talking, and feel that it should be a non-stop chat, which can be hard for a 4 hour date. Should I try to limit a first date to say, an hour, that way awkward moments don't arise due to having spent so much time with someone? Hopefully I've given enough information so anyone with sound advice can help me from here. Again, I feel I could potentially re-engage, but I don't know if this is a lost cause, or if I should learn that if a girl stands me up once, on top of not responding to a text, that she is a lost cause regardless.
TL;DR
Met a girl, got a great approach, and managed a first date. Scheduled a second date, received a "no" as an answer after 9 hours, then tried to spark up a convo 1 hour later, and have yet to receive a new message for over 30 hours. Should I try to attempt any more conversation with this girl in person or completely move on to other women?
