It's just a matter of context.

Personally, I'll use "cute" at the beginning of the interaction: "I noticed you and thought you were cute, so I wanted to say 'hi.'" Or just generally as a go-to if I want to compliment their looks.

I'll use "beautiful" only when I really want to overly convey that I'm being genuine (and I rarely use it): "I don't care that you disagree, I think you'd still look beautiful even wearing snow pants and a parka."

And I'll use "sexy" when I am actively engaged in trying to have sex: "That look you just gave me was very sexy."

Yo dawg, Black Dragon here. Call her what you want. Be respectful, but if you think she's a sexy lady, tell her that. I myself like to be extra respectful with women I just met, but you should know that depends on the circumstance. A lady dancin' at the club is gonna want to hear you call her sexy, and a girlie you meet at a coffee joint is gonna wanna be called cute, and hey that gorgeous beauty wearing that sexy dress with the cute face, well dawg, you're on your own with that one. ;)

I use cute, always. "Hey I thought you were pretty cute and I wanted to talk to you, what's your name?"

I use those terms, with "pretty" as well, based on what I actually think about a girl's looks and/or personality (some girls are cute, but definitely not beautiful or sexy, for example). Some girls certainly have varying associations, both positive and negative, with some of those words (especially cute and sexy), so sometimes it's good to get a feel for that as well before using those compliments/descriptors to describe a girl you have an interest in.

None of these, as they all relate only to physical appearance. Try things that relate instead to personality or character. Hello, you seem Fun, interesting, exciting, what's your name? Is miles ahead of cute, or sexy because it implies a mental ability above and beyond male hormonal traits to go for looks.

Agree that context is everything, as is the source of the compliment: A girl adores to be told any of these things.. but if she's trying to be sexy for you.. she doesn't want to be told she's cute, & she doesn't care if she's told she's sexy by anyone other than you.

jus don't ever assume that the girl hears such compliments too much and decide she doesn't want to hear it from you. If you are the man she is trying to be cute, beautiful, and sexy for... then YOUR opinion is the only one that matters to her. If she doesn't hear it from you, she will think you do not find her to be any of these things.

None of the above, don't stroke their ego.

It works if it's in the form of a neg I guess, but I don't really like to neg so I don't do it (ex. That gap in your teeth is so cute.) You can also say it sarcastically, even if you mean it.
