I'll try to keep this as short as possible, but I just wanted to let you all know how my night went!

So I recently started trying to learn to ice skate so I could play hockey (this is relevant, I swear). I'm 20 years old and did not expect skating to be quite so hard, but I realized I need to invest in myself so fuck it, I'm sticking with it. Anyways, I've been going to the rink by myself every Sat, Sun, and Mon, and with the amount of slips, trips, bumps, and bruises I've acquired in front of countless six year old skating prodigies, I've come to lose all sense of shame.

Anyways, I saw a girl figure skating at the rink today and saw she had collegiate apparel on from my school. So I approached her saying "Hey, you go to _____ College? Me too! What grade are you in? I'm a junior, my name's Lndbrghwrstlr!"

20 minutes go by as we talk about school, majors, whatever else, and she says she needs to get back to practicing and so do I. So after another half hour or so we step off the ice and are taking off the skates getting ready to leave when I realize I want to see this girl again. I stand up, walk across the room and in front of everyone near her I say "I know we only just met, but I'd love to take you out to dinner and get to know you sometime before we go back to school." She says okay and as I reach for my phone to get her number, she says "Oh you can just find me on Facebook, I hardly ever respond to texts." Fortunately for me my brain was in overdrive and I came up with "Well that's fine because I only call anyways" which made her laugh and say okay.

Moral of the story: Don't be ever embarrassed about anything you do. And even if you are, laugh and own up to being terrible at it. Half of the 20 minute conversation with her was us laughing about how I fell and slammed into the boards twice, or her giving me tips on how to stop better. Don't be embarrassed about approaching in a crowd either, as I was walking towards my car, some older gentleman jokingly asked if I could give him tips for the ladies. People will only be impressed by you, even if you are turned down.
