As you walk into class, or as she does...Give her a little eye contact, smile, head nod, wink or whatever feels natural (the point is to acknowledge her and be confident i doing so). You can tell by her response wether it's most likely a no, or if you've got a good chance. This avoids being "wrong" because you'll only actually try the ones who give you a positive response.

First of all, cut out "being wrong" of your vocabulary. there is only "not interested (for whatever reason)" and this is something perfectly normal – you are not interested in every female you see too, right? and if she rejects, it's her loss.

The class itself is not a good situation because it has a work vibe inherent. But you lay the foundations there. as already mentioned, start eye contact, show that you are happy to see her and smile to her. but I would leave it at first sight and maybe 1-2 times during class if you don't want to seem creepy. Where you approach depends a little bit on the class. there are two ways: Way 1: If it's easy to have a little bit of small talk during class, you start by sitting next to her and start a small talk conversation: "hey, you like this class?" "are you also at the party tonight?" something like that. the next time, you don't sit next to her. the important thing is to make it look random at the beginning. you want to seem as an interested guy who is comfortable with getting to know his classmates and women because he enjoys company (and not because he is trying to hit on the girls). thus, you just sat next to her by chance. two classes later, you sit next to her by chance again: "hey, it's you again. nice to see you again". from there on, you can start to bond, because now you know each other a little bit and you are interested in her because of you past interaction. just drop an invitation during the small talk and get her phone number: "i got two vouchers for bowling, but all my mates are busy studying. do you want to join?". "It's so funny with you. I have to wait for my classes two hours, do you want to go for a coffee break? I'll invite you for one!" and bam, you have a date. if she declines, try again one or maximum two times the next times you see her in class. if she does always says no and does not make a suggestion by herself, move on. in the worst case, you two now ignore each other again (like in the beginning), in the best case you have a nice new contact and who knows what will happen in the future.

Way 2: you cannot sit next to her or talk to her in class. well, you have to catch her outside of class. look which class she has afterwards or where she is going, go the same way and start with something like "hey, you are in [insert class] too, right? Jesus, it was so complicated today, right?" if this option is also not available, you have to look for her hobbies, where she hangs out at campus etc. you have to lay the foundations in class already so it's not a complete cold approach. If she already knows you by eye contact, saying "hi" at the beginning of class and so on, it's way easier to approach her. also, you two already have something in common and to start talking about (but only start, change the topic away from class asap!) – your class.

Be natural. Be yourself. Like @_puaaccount said, smile and be confident. A warming smile does a lot and isn't viewed as odd or anything, just friendly and open. You can communicate that you are attracted to her through your eyes.

With that being said, don't be weird. I am all for being weird when meeting randoms, but here is the problem. These girls are girls you are going to see again. This isn't just some situation where you will never see the girl again. Rejection is no big deal but you don't want to come off as creepy when you are attempting to meet people you are going to see daily. Girls talk, and they may go out of their way just to avoid you.

Whatever behavior you demonstrate you will be expected to maintain throughout the semester to her.

If you have any friends in the class and an exam coming up, I suggest having a study group. Invite her. It gives you an excuse to approach and you're approaching with the value of knowledge and a chance to socialize. Then if she comes to the study group just be the leader and talk about the course concepts with confidence. This would require you studying a bit beforehand though. Things will happen naturally.
