Honestly I would act confused like did you understand what the professor was talking about? Breaks the ice what I noticed works is study group be like I was thinking about starting a study group are you interested and your not trying hard you trying to do well.

What do you mean by try hard? First, do all the hot girls in the class know each other? If they don't, you're solid. If they do, you only have one shot with one of them. If they don't know each other, one day just sit next to one of them during routines or whatever, and start chatting, say hi. That shouldn't be try hard. If you strike out with one of them, the next day just go talk to another one of them and don't make a big deal out of it. This will work if they don't know each other, if they do they could start gossiping about you so I wouldn't recommend this.

Don't tryhard and you won't come across as one. Simple.

More generically, don't focus on appearing so-and-so. Focus on being so-and-so, and it will naturally come forth.

For example, people ask, "how do I appear funny"? Instead of asking how they can appear funny, they should ask how they can be funny.

I'd handle it by casually striking a conversation, see if there's chemistry or not, and go from there.
