Over the past 8 months or so I have been experimenting with my approach to women in the bar scene. Much like everyone else, my lifelong strategy was always to go out with a group of guys, or just 1 wingman and try our luck. Pretty standard.

Then I looked around and always saw the same thing. Group of bros sitting at the bar/table, all wearing some variation of a button-up shirt or a polo. There was nothing to make them stand-out of the crowd. And then I looked at myself and I saw the same thing.

I started going to popular bars/clubs by myself, dressing as nice as I could, getting a drink and just stand there people watching. I found that women were much more likely to approach me when they realized I was alone because I'm not as intimidating as a big group of guys who will all hungrily size up any one who comes to talk to them.

It almost conceals my motives in the eyes of women: "why would he be at a bar drinking alone if he was here to pick up chicks?" It instantly lowers their guard somewhat. Finding a solid spot posted at the bar allows for a constant influx of traffic and maximizing the amount of women who will be standing next to you to get a drink. This is the perfect opportunity to attempt small talk and/or hope she initiates the interaction.

However, it is noted that the vast majority of women still go out in groups and their group mentality has a "no girl left behind" instinct, so a lot of the time an overzealous friend will reclaim the woman back to the group if she lingers with you for too long.

So from my solo encounters I found that a better strategy was to go out with a friend, but don't make it apparent that you are there together. Stick with the original strategy. Drink alone at opposite ends or in different sections. If one of you finds a couple of women, you can motion the other guy over to fulfill his wingman duties.

I've found that this approach gives you much more leeway. Some women are offput by the fact that you are there alone. In this sense, you can still be alone, but have the "out" of saying that your friend is in the bathroom, or nearby, etc. Or if you find the single women, you can stay in your solo group.

Mold it to what the situation calls for.
