Being a Nice Guy isn't a bad thing, being timid is. If you're being nice just to get into a girl's pants (i.e. making sure she can trust and keeps you in her life because you're a nice guy she can talk to) but you get upset over not getting into her pants, then you're not a nice guy, you're just a liar. It's ok to be nice, just don't be timid/a doormat. This leads me to point 2:
Don't be timid. Break the touch barrier. Hold her hand. If she's receptive, touch her elbow. If she's still receptive, touch her shoulder. If she hasn't moved your hand away or turned away from you, touch the small of her back. Put a hand on her knee, and slowly move up her thigh if she's ok with it. Not every girl will want you to, but if you're respectful and start with her hand, you'll be able to gauge what she wants and if you control yourself as you escalate, you won't be labelled a creep.
Be confident in yourself. Write down what you're good at and passionate about, and embrace it, Own those things. Don't brag about it, but remember that you are some who has value, and can show and share that value with girls.

Clearly your issue here is confidence. Try to stop caring about what you think people think when they hear what you say, and be yourself. Half the time you say something that you regret, it's usually just you dwelling on it, and no one else. If you have a comment or a compliment that's slightly 'out there' and sexual, say it! Chances are it will just make the girl laugh, and maybe she'll think of you as a possible sexual partner instead of a friend that's scared to say what he wants to.

Edit: When I say "out there" and sexual, I mean within reason. Don't go out there bein' nasty. Being like your friend won't happen over night, it takes practice and experience.

Well you're 17. you are right where you should be. This is what all those older folks refer to as 'those awkward teenage years' and they are essential in instilling some character in you.

I'm a high school student (17) and this kid SLAYS. He gets with new girls every other day and has a lot of girls talking to him/wanting to hook up.

First of all, this is high school you are talking about. Take it all with a grain of salt. He might have confidence but you have no real way to know how well or how far it's going. I knew guys who had a lot of "game," and had girls lining up, only to find out that most of these players were either exaggerating greatly, or were basically sexually assaulting girls and girls kept it under wraps due to shame.

Also, while it's good to search for role models, there's limited utility in comparing oneself to others.

I, on the other hand, am a struggling virgin who has only recently started to hook up with a few subpar girls thanks to some of the tips I learned here.

Dude. You're in HS. You want to pick up on girls, do it.

But be aware that focusing on this, over developing yourself as a person and discovering yourself, will put you on a path that's bad.

Here's this rumor/bad theory that keeps popping up. The idea that you need to talk dirty to escalate.

You don't.

What you need is kino. Look it up in the sidebar. You don't need to talk dirty. You could be having a "G-rated" conversation with some leg contact, and that could be enough to "f-close," if you're confident enough.

Also, I'll just point out that this guy didn't get laid. The guy was escalating at a time when sex couldn't happen. A common rookie mistake.

And lastly, high school girls let a lot of stuff go that won't really work at any other time. And a lot of stuff he's doing, like telling her she wants him, comes off like the kind of thing that a girl just lets slide because it's the best approach she's getting from a HS guy.

If you elevate yourself beyond what he's doing, you could surpass him easily. Making the connections you do, with better kino and confidence and no cheesy lines, will go a long way.
