Should I be direct and bluntly ask girls if they have boyfriends?

I normally don't ask. I usually find out when I ask for her number - usually if she has one, she tells me then. And honestly, if she does end up having one, I don't care, I just put her in my friendzone and start hanging out with her friend circle. Girls have friends who are girls.

If I'm digging her and worried she has a bf, I make a joke, like, "Girl, your man let you walk out of the house looking like this? Mmm mmm!" or something stupid like that. Gets a laugh and answers whether or not she has one.

I really don't see the point in asking. Plus i'm firmly in the RSD mindset where they talk about things like indifference. There's a chance they'll drop that they have a boyfriend anyways, either as a test or legitimately. To me asking brings up too many variables that I'm not too good at handling, but some guys are very good at it.

If you have a moral issue with getting girls who are taken then thats fine. As far as your value, your reactions will do far more to affect that then the question itself. Just ask it in a very indifferent and calm manner if it means that much to you.

Clearly depends on how you're doing it. It's information you need to know if you're interested in her and information you're entitled to if she's interested in you. Both Diplipper and fezzesarecool gave great examples of how to find-out without asking straight-up, which I'd recommend since neither will make a big deal out of what is actually a deal-breaker piece of information.

As a girl a few times before when I've met guys they've asked me straight up "Do you have a boyfriend?" And it's not a turn off. It lets me know that they are interested in me even if a little bit, and it's kind of a compliment. Though I have to admit it's more awkward if it's someone you see or will see regularly. It's more the kind of thing I would expect at a bar. One time I was just chillin with a drink and this guy walks up;

Him; Excuse me, Hi! taps my shoulder Do you have a boyfriend?

Me; Hi... No I don't actually.

Him; Okay. I saw you from across the bar and you look really beautiful and kind, so I thought I'd ask. My name's Paul, what's yours?

general conversation ensues

The night went good for Paul. He asked me in a respectful and honest way and 9/10 that's all it takes. Plus he was a hottie :)
