Remember the three second rule. Give yourself three seconds to respond then act before you can think and talk yourself out of action. Think of it as getting up and answering a ringing telephone.

It might help to have some canned responses in your case so that way you have fewer things to think and worry about.

Your problem comes from insecurities we all have. It is only human to have them. The key to overcome them is to desensitize you to that. Think of the following scenario: you book a parachute jump because you think it might be cool to do it. Then you stand in the plane, with your parachute on your back and the instructor tells you to jump. You freeze. You get scared as fuck. Thousands of scenarios run through your head what could happen, and all of them might happen in certain cases. This is because you haven't done this before or not often enough, so you are still not desensitized to it. There are two scenarios that might happen now: while you are thinking about all that could go wrong, you suddenly do something without thinking about it consciously, you jump. Or, you give in to your fear and you don't.

You might ask what's the connection of parachuting out of a plane, and talking to a girl that is interested in you? Simple: you have to either reach the part where your body takes over and you approach the girl, your heart pounding like it will explode, still thousands of thoughts running through your mind, then maybe you stuttering like hell and getting shut down or experiencing this awkward moment, or staying in your mind until it over, having learned nothing, reinforcing your behavior of being paralyzed.

The good thing is, if you done this once, you will feel the adrenaline rush, and this might make you feel addicted to it. Wanting more, until you get used to it, making this your second nature.

So, long story short: switch off your mind, let your body take control and desensitize yourself.

I used to be like you, only i called it a crippling fear of rejection, and yes, it prevented me from talking to anyone I was attracted to.

Over time, I acknowledged I didn't want to be this was anymore, and forced myself to start talking to girls in stores, waitresses, clerks, hostesses, anyone in retail. After about a year, I realized I no longer had a problem talking to anyone, and developed a "give no fucks" attitude.

At this point, when I see someone I think is cute, I will not wait, will not hesitate. I walk right up to her, make eye contact, smile, and just say "hey, I saw you standing here and wanted to come over and say hi....what is your name?"

If she replies, great, we keep talking. If not, great, I don't want her wasting my time, and I don't want to waste hers. Its no big deal either way.

Sometimes I will open with this, or followup the first open with this: I usually then find something interesting about her, something she is holding, wearing, or doing, and just ask her about it. "hey, I like that jacket, where did you get it?" "I fucking love your hair color, what is the name of that color? Do you dye it yourself?"

If you know her from school, then you can just play it cool once you open and ask her about her classes or her homework, or whatever.

The point to remember is: It doesn't matter what you say, its how you say it.

So be cool, calm, comfortable, collected, and confident, make eye contact, smile, and just say "hi [name]" .

If you are still unsure, then try this:

day 1: make eye contact, smile, and just say "hi" to her and keep walking

day 2: say "hi [name]" and keep walking. You must use her name this time.

day 3: say "hi [name]...whats going on?" if she replies, just say "oh, thats neat...i gota go now", if she doesn't say anything no big deal...you walk away.

day 4 Say "hi [name]...that's a cool jacket, i like the color, where did you get it?" (AFter saying hi to her three times now, she should answer you. After she answers you, you can either engage or walk away.

day 5: Say "hi [name]...whats new?...blah blah blah...What are you doing after school/class/this weekend, got any fun plans?" What ever she says, you just explain something fun and interesting that you are doing...and then walk away...

day 6: say "hi [name]...whats up?...blah blah blah..."lets hang out this weekend, i'm going to the [insert fun event here]"

I'm in the same boat, brother. She's been snapping looks at me for a couple of weeks now, and I've been hung up on how to approach. Honestly, I think the best route from what I've gathered on this sub and elsewhere is to just go, introduce yourself, and say how you feel. There's nothing to lose with someone you've never talked to. Now let's see if I can follow up on my own words.
