You didn't set up enough plausible deniability before going for the number.

Edit: obviously hiking is just one example. Pick your hobby.

Am I missing something? If she seriously asks that question. She's a moron. Walk away. If she throws it out as a comment, just ignore it; she's about to give the number to you.

Witty responses are fine sometimes, but keep in mind that if it's lame (heads up, a ton of them on this sub are) you'll fall on your face. If she's into you, less is more. You've already won.
