Let’s break it down- first things first, men and women aren’t monoliths.

Secondly, the men who burned women at the stake 500 years ago are not the same men you’re going on dates with… they’re long gone.

Thirdly, it’s always the people who are the most vocally opposed to gender stereotypes and sexist conditioning, that end up reinforcing those mindsets- mindsets such as “the man should always pay”. It’s so hypocritical- one minute it’s “we need to get rid of traditional gender roles” (which I can get behind in a sense, as long as we don’t demonise those who still choose to conform to them), but then the next they contradict their own mindset by saying “the man should always be the one to pay”.
