In addition to the escalation ladder you must also be in the frame where you are basically ready to lose the girl too. You may escalate and it might fuck up but hey - at least you were in it to win it.

You must do everything you are comfortable doing, in order to find out what she is comfortable doing. If all you're comfortable doing is a high five, then do it. Interesting necklace? Touch it (and her sternum).

Man spreading? More comfy to stretch out a bit? Her leg is in the way? Do it.

I often find that it's not just about what she's comfortable doing, it's for me, too. I'm escalating in a way that makes me comfortable. Try that maybe? It works for me, might work for you.
