I (22M) am a college senior on a coed sports team. This semester we have recruited many new people, including several girls. A few of them I would say I'm attracted to.

I have never dated a girl, asked a girl out, or honestly felt attraction from a girl. I simply can't tell who is genuinely interested in me, and this will come into play below.

At practices, which are early in the mornings, we have a few minutes beforehand to chat amongst ourselves. But then we have to give 2 hours of focus and then we disperse after stretching.

There are a few girls on the team that were with us last semester, but I can honestly say I am not attracted to them because of their social media presence and a few other characteristics.

The girls that are new, well they tend to talk to other girls during practice. If I say anything to them it's in passing. Some are a little more talkative, and one in particular likes to have long, drawn out conversations after practice.

This particular person is attractive, but within the conversation we were talking about the team going to the movies (I think), and I think she said she wanted to see a movie with her ex-boyfriend? I don't know what she was talking about, I just kept hearing about ex-boyfriends. And she also texts this other new guy on the team who she talks to, but yet she likes to talk to me?

With other girls if I try to start a conversation, usually it's as if I'm talking to a brick wall, whereby the conversation won't continue naturally. I have to find shit to talk about.

(Tl;dr) apologize if this is a verbose post. But I was under the impression that if a girl likes to talk to you, then maybe she's genuinely interested in you, and if they don't initiate a conversation (which most don't), they aren't.
