Let's keep this brief: I've been lurking TRP for a few weeks and reading the RP handbook. The community seems to agree that the first step is to "start lifting."

I live in a fairly isolated rural area in the Northeast US, the nearest gym is 40 highway miles away—even with gas prices at their current lows, that's a lot of time/money/vehicular depreciation/energy that I can't currently spare. Accordingly, acquiring a decent set of free weights would require spending a few hundred dollars that I don't have. Yard sale season is a few months off yet, I figure that's my best bet to pick up a secondhand weight set.

In the meantime there's got to be some kind of workout I can do at home to shed at least a little bit of my decades of accumulated laziness. If this is the wrong place to ask, please let me know & point me in the right direction.

edit: Ideally you are suggesting activities that can be done indoors without buying equipment I don't have and can't afford. I'll reiterate that I'm in the Northeast US which is currently enduring one of the coldest winters in recent memory.
