I have this deep worry of being recognized out and about if I plan to start approaching. How do y'all deal with that?

I live in a big city but I've dated a few girls that still live here, and even though it's a big city I've run into people I know fairly frequently. I know I shouldn't give a shit what they think, but it's one of those "Oh she moved on and is happy, here I am trying to pick up women by myself."
