I just wanted to share a little post about a technique which in my opinion is really powerful for people with insecurities.

I'm taking about the power of exaggeration. By this I mean, taking some undesirable quality, riffing on it, and exaggerating it to the point that it's really funny.

This one I think has a lot of potential for people who have insecurities. Why? Let's say you're really short. This is a disadvantage. Girls like tall guys, this is just a fact. So, what can you do if you've been dealt that hand? Well what you want to do is twofold.

1) Draw clear attention to the elephant in the room

Continuing with my example, if you are a short guy, everyone knows this. Especially girls. They have registered your height in a nanosecond. So there's no point in not talking about your height. In fact, what you want to do is to talk so openly and confidently about it that no one can escape it.

This sounds counter intuitive, but here's what's happening beneath the surface. Girls all want to be with men who have certain qualities, but sometimes they are afraid that they might be showing interest in a guy whilst everyone else around is like "ew what the fuck, why is Jessica flirting with this guy, he's so _______". So, by a guy making it clear to everyone that he is unambiguously short, it kind of puts everyone on the same page, so that any girl who is showing interest won't be worrying what other people think about the elephant in the room (be it that you're short, nerdy, old, young, whatever it may be). She can now show interest knowing that other people aren't awkwardly discussing some quality of the guy which hasn't been already made clear. She knows, as everybody else knows, that she is making a decision to show interest with full knowledge and acceptance of his set of qualities. There's nothing to whisper about, bitch about, gossip about, and risk killing the attraction.

2) Exaggerate the elephant

I think point #1 is good enough for most purposes. But this takes it a step further. Oftentimes you should actually exaggerate your insecurity. This does two things. First, it allows you to turn your weakness into a strength, because it allows you to shift away from something like being short, being poor, being old etc, and pivot to a different quality, like being funny or charismatic - something you can demonstrate in the moment. Second, it actually diminishes the insecurity by putting it beside a dramatised, exaggerated version of itself.

Let me explain using a different example. Let's say you live in your parents basement and you're 34, and this is known. You could come up with a hilarious story about how you can't stay out too late because you're grounded. Tell her how your mum has already taken away all your comic books and won't let you sleep in your batman pyjamas. The story is largely irrelevant because girls are responding to your energy and subcommission, not the actual content itself, but that's a post for another time.

So what has the exaggeration achieved here? First, it's demonstrated that you are funny, creative, confident and charismatic. And second, it has painted a picture of yourself which is so extreme, that suddenly living at home with your parents seems like a minor thing. Once you've painted the picture of the guy in batman pyjamas, subconsciously you start to look totally normal.

Never underestimate how powerful this can be. Guys are much more logical and this shit doesn't work quite as easily with them (still works pretty well though even with guys), but girls get totally taken in by this stuff. They have vivid imaginations and telling this kind of story is like the pyjama guy literally walking up to the bar right next to you. If that happened, how insecure would you feel? Your insecurities would vanish if that happened. But they CAN vanish if you are willing to own them, play on them, exaggerate them, and most of all, have fun with them.

Good luck brothers!
