Also: It's not cheap. Any cologne that you can afford a bottle that lasts nine years is probably a cheap knock off.

Classic scents are Old Spice, English Leather, and Polo. I'm told that for some women, Drakkar Noir is catnip.

Buy no more than an ounce at a time until you find something that works for you, and do NOT hesitate to give away anything the doesn't. Because stank is . . . well, stank.

I recommend you hit up the Fragrance counter at a major department store such as Macy's, Dillards or Nordstom. Not only will you get professional assistance, but you will get an opportunity to interact with attractive women and flirt. Remember, cologne smells different after a couple minutes after you apply it to your skin. In the end, it is really up to you, but second opinions are necessary.

OK. Know any attractive females? Invite them to go cologne shopping with you. Tell them you will get them coffee afterwards, you just want a female's opinion on what scents smell good on you. Which is why you want cologne, to smell good for them hotties. Flirt with said attractive female, easy escalation (she's going to touch you and flirt back if she thinks you smell good). Thas it. You now have cologne that works for you. Additionally if she is attracted enough you could bang her for bonus points.

It's really all about preference. Go out and actually find and test out a scent, because if you like it, you'll stick with it for a long time. For me, Cool Water Cologne is my go-to

I use essential oils on acupuncture points to boost yang.

You can also get animal musk at sporting good stores. Great source of pheremones.

I usually just do a quick spray of old spice stuff if I'm going out. I've never really had expensive cologne but I mean to try it.

I do not think it is necessary.
I wash myself decently daily and use my old spice deostick.
I keep my beard and hair well kept and combed and brush my teeth daily.
All other 'beauty products' I do not regard as manly.

Cologne is not necessary but it's a nice plus. Because a pro PUA could pick up a girl wearing crocs, does not mean you should not try to dress well. In the end you make your own decisions, but if you can afford it, why not ?

But get some 'real' fragrance, not some cheap-ass stuff. Though old-spice is cheap it mind remind women of their daddy o You cannot go wrong with Yves Saint Laurent. Try l'Homme or La nuit de l'Homme. It's fairly classic but does the job. As a French guy currently in Canada, I get a lot of 'You smell so good' and other compliments regarding my scent. Probably more than in France, because people are less used to it.

If you don't like the ones I mentioned, try some other classic brands (Boss, Armany, Givenchy, Gaultier, etc) on your skin and wait till the alcohol dissipates. Some colognes/fragrances might smell wonderful on the little bands they provide but the scent gets messed up by your skin.

My advice is, don't go for the weird scent that only you might like, especially if you don't have experience. If your goal is to attract women, pick in the lists of women's favorite fragrances. In america the 'risk' of having the same cologne as a lot of other guys is low, so you don't really care about originality. You can also switch between a light scent during spring/summer and a stronger, more musky scent during fall/winter.
