It was just because of the context that I did this:
Basically a waitress at the restaurant I was at was really cute and I knew I would regret it if I didn't approach her. But she wasn't my waitress and so I only caught her as we crossed paths quickly on my way out. I was with people and had to get back to them and she was working so unfortunately I couldn't make it a proper conversation, so I just basically smiled, said hi, and asked if she was single. Again, pretty forward but the situation didn't give me a lot of time to interact. She seemed pretty taken aback but said yes. I didn't want to keep her from her work or make an awkward scene asking for her number so I decided to give her mine instead and hope for the best, and the easiest way to do it at the time seemed to me to give her one of my cards.
I had mixed feelings afterward. I was happy with myself that I at least made an effort because I knew I'd regret it otherwise, but I also wish there had been a less douchey way to handle that situation. I'm not a Patrick Bateman-type so the whole biz card thing seems kind of out of character for me in the first place.
That was yesterday and I haven't heard from her so I'm not optimistic, but I'm also having a hard time thinking what else I could have done in that situation. I had very little time to think and less time to talk to her, so I felt like I was trying to do the best I could in that particular setting.
