I feel like you should be more direct when you’re cold approaching out of nowhere (and it’s someone that you’ll otherwise never see again like on the street). Even in these times however, I would mix in a bit more conversation before going for the number, to give yourself the opportunity to flirt and to build some comfort. If you’re in a situation with people in your classroom, at work, or even in a gym (where you’ll likely see them again), I would go kind of indirect, but still introduce yourself and flirt as much as you can. In this second situation, I’d recommend building comfort over a few Interactions (being sure to flirt often so you don’t get friendzoned). Eventually, you could bring up the idea of a hangout as casually as possible after she’s started actively flirting back with you.

Direct is boring, you be indirect when you’re flirting. Day or night doesn’t really matter. I understand the “not trying to waste the other persons time”, but the person wouldn’t had opened up to you during your approach if that was the issue lol. Stop overthinking
