Women approach me with my dogs all the time. When they start saying stuff like "OMG so cute, so handsome", just say something like "Oh thanks, yeah, I workout a little bit, can't really tell with these clothes on but thanks for noticing."

Usually, the girl will go like "uh?" And then you say "oh, oh! You are talking about the dog NOT me! Ok I see, yeah, he is quite cute".

But that usually gives you enough of a flirty opening to gauge interest. I had one girl say "actually yeah, the owner is kind of cute too". You can go anywhere with this.

Can confirm. A lone guy walking about a park, even in broad daylight, is not likely to be well-received if he walks up to random women and starts a conversation. Throw a cute puppy into the mix and the random women come to you and strike up a conversation. (source: I used to dogsit for my mate's spaniel when he travelled for work)

However I'm the kind of person who hates going out in cold and wet weather and dogs need their exercise no matter what. So until I move somewhere warm I'm just gonna volunteer to walk my friend's dogs during the sunnier months.

Agreed but also great convo starter with anyone in general, when I walk my boy everyone smiles at him. dogs are a great way to make everyone elses day a little better if you offer to let them meet your dog.
