The "try hard" energy needs to be taken out of the equation if humor is a big part of your game.

What makes you a clown is when u lift your emotions from your default state in order to get approval or attention.

You can say all the same stuff and same jokes, just keep your tone of voice and tempo of words in check and refrain from fidgety or wild movements. This signals that your humor is part of who you are and you won't give off that 'try hard" energy, it just is what it is and you are who you are regardless of outcome.

It still has it’s uses :

If she is not opening out of intimidation (you do it 1 time , so you become harmless and she might open ) - If it is not from intimidation - It won’t work
If I ask for too much compliance (I pull joke out of my ass and replace the ask with a smaller one )
If you wing - you are basically a distraction that courses high spikes for which he gets the glory .

Other than that it will at best - wast time , at worst - actively fuck you .

It is best used sparingly and in small doses .

You also mentioned that you lack confidence and that has nothing to do with you being funny. I don't see any reason why you can't be confident and funny at the same time, if I were you I'd focus on fixing my confidence first
