Yikes- this comment is a bad take- I strongly disagree with you here- it gives most who go through it deep deep trauma for the rest of their lives. Whether they’re male or female.

It scars many for life- it is a horror for the majority of those who go through it. Many of those who go through it feel violated and preyed upon as they’re experiencing it. Then there’s many who maybe don’t view it that way in the moment, and only realise years later just how fucked up and terrifying it was.

I haven’t been through it personally, but I deeply sympathise with those who have- they’ve had their bodily autonomy violated; they’ve been forced upon- I don’t think anyone can say “it’s not a horror beyond human comprehension”. Committing a sexual assault is one of the worst things a human can do to another human.

You may not have been a victim, so I don’t think we can ever say for sure how terrifying rape is for the victims, unless we’ve been through it ourselves- we can deeply sympathize with them.

Maybe you have been a victim and viewed it just as a small minor blip, something that it was easy to get over, perhaps it didn’t scar you for life- and that’s your personal experience, but so many rape victims (men and women alike) have a completely different story where rape was the most frightening and traumatising thing that they’d ever been through in life.

As a man who has been raped, it was "a horror beyond human comprehension" for me in the sense that I could not have comprehended the terror, distress, and suffering beforehand, and I wouldn't be able to describe it to another person so that they could understand it fully.

I really don't think people treat rape as worse than Columbine or 9/11. Women and men are raped constantly, and very little is done about it. Rape is barely news unless a celebrity is involved. Rape of women seems to just be accepted by society as a fact of life (and rape of men is usually denied, ridiculed, or endorsed, but that's another topic), while the reaction to 9/11 killed significantly more people than the attack itself, and we are still talking about Columbine 25 years later.

To be honest, I would rather have been killed by a bear than raped by a woman. I know that may sound overly dramatic, but to me, it feels logical because even though I'm not suicidal anymore, I very much doubt anything that happens in the rest of my life will be good enough to make the part of my life beginning that day a net positive. That doesn't mean that is the objectively correct hierarchy of horror. This is subjective. Different individuals will feel differently, and as long as one doesn't take out their trauma on innocent people by generalizing an entire gender as rapists, I don't think there is a right or wrong way to look at it.
