I suspect that the people who have commented so far are not European. I am from a small EU country and we have one of the lowest birth rates (around 1.1) . So much so that the government has resorted to 'importing' workers. The main reason is that our citizens have a very long life expectancy and the social security system will eventually collapse if we continue not making babies.

Presently we are importing skilled workers from countries such as India to work in our national health system, tourism, etc.

However we also have a problem with illegal immigration from Africa. These are sub Saharan Africans who escape from their countries either because of war, inhumane regimes and economic reasons. They are mostly unskilled and do not speak English, Maltese or Italian, which are the 3 languages that most of us can speak. They are slowly changing our demographics as their culture is completely different from a European one.

France has been suffering from this problem for decades. In fact anyone who has been to Paris in the past few years knows that it sometimes feels that one is in Africa and not Europe. I suspect that Macron is trying to grasp back some European culture for his country.
