This post in itself isn’t too bad- but the comments- the “pick me” accusations, “why aren’t you a girls girl’”, “why do you feel more comfortable with men- that’s internalised misogyny”, “i hate when people brag about being closer to men- they must have had abusive mothers” (genuine comment I read- I have a wonderful mother thank you), “when a woman puts down other women that’s a red flag” (but when men put down other men, these same women see it as “yaas king smash the patriarchy”…. i also don’t see how stating your personal experience that you’re closer to men and struggle friendship wise with women is “putting women down” or a red flag). One woman said she felt safer with men only for another to reply “why do you feel safer with men if they’re statistically more likely to harm you”… you see- lots of arguments between women who disagree with each other… somewhat proves that we can be vicious to each other. But nope, the women who struggle to bond with other women are “pick me internalised misogynists”… every woman has a different experience… one woman said “my eyes glaze over when they talk about women to women bullying- I’ve experienced it only twice compared to countless times from men”… OK?
How is having more male friends being an internalised misogynist? “If you find it hard to make female friendships that’s a you problem”… considering I had a group of girls viciously drop me because I wasn’t into the party scene and wouldn’t let them do my makeup (I have bad texture sensitivities so I don’t wear it), I’d hardly say that’s my problem- they were the ones peer pressuring me.
Another sample comment… “This is like a sure-fire tell on if you’re a girls girl or not honestly. Like wdym women are hard to befriend? Unless youre gravitating towards other pick-me’s I’ve made friends with drunk girls at the club in 10 min sounds like a skill issue”… i wouldn’t call myself a “girls’ girl” because 1) I’m a grown woman, not a girl and 2) I don’t befriend people based on gender- I’ve had friends of both genders before and my personal experience (which isn’t for every woman) is that the male friends stayed more loyal. And that “pick me” nonsense pisses me off… I also don’t drink because I’d get addicted, I don’t club because it’s sensory overload and I’m autistic too so my “skills” socially aren’t great. Here’s another “if you surround yourself with men you see women as your competition”… what a bizarre mindset.
I got called a misogynist once because I said “it doesn’t automatically make somebody an internalised misogynist if they didn’t like the Barbie movie” (it was this woman whining that another woman’s daughter thought it was a load of man-hating crap… I think it could be interpreted two ways- either as misandrist feminist crap, or as a satire of misandrist feminist crap… sad how the two are indistinguishable from each other though).
Somebody says “this was me in my 20s but I woke up to my internalised misogyny in my 30s”… fellas, is it misogynistic to have male friends? And my favourite comment was this one “my problem with other women usually stems from them defending men a lot”… so you want to befriend more women, but you don’t want to befriend women who have also befriended men? “It’s patiarchy’s fault” is what most of the comments are saying…
Personally I’ve had wonderful men in my life, I’ve also had wonderful women in my life. On average, I click more with the men… my experience isn’t universal and I don’t claim it is….
My partner is the other way round- he clicks better with women than he does with men. His experience isn’t universal and he doesn’t claim it is”.
But simply saying “there are some women who are more toxic than some men” gets you branded as a misogynist now? I really don’t get it.
Funny they say they talk about supporting women, but then any woman that disagrees with them they’re quick to discard.
