If objectification is possible am I able, as a gay man, to objectify straight men? I direct my male gaze at them. I'm a guy, I look. I see men walking and I zero in on their package if they have something flopping around in shorts. I see men's bodies and I zero in on their muscles. I see naked men at the gym locker room and I look, I can't help it.

Is this objectification too? If so, then why am I not targeted for doing it? Answer: because I'm directing it at MEN. It either applies equally to everyone or not at all.

Do you know the origin of "cosification" concept? It´s interesting to know that.

They made an study showing images of nude women to men, and they find that activates areas related with objects, so the bad conclusion was men see women as objects...but that´s not the real explanation. The same areas of brain are used to manual functions, so men brain in reality prepares to interact with that women , to do the first step and women only wait for the other one thta initiates contact.

We don´t see women as objects, we see them as someone valued that we want to inter actuate with

Like you said it makes no sense in how it's used. It's taking normal behavior and striping out context so it can make that normal behavior seem bad to the easily fooled. You could argue most human interactions are objectification of some sort or another with this line of thinking.

It's literally a grammar reference. "John kicked the ball." The subject of a sentence is the actor, in this case, John. The object of the sentence is what the subject performs the verb on. In this case, the object is the ball.

The objection to objectification is the claim that women are treated like objects and never subjects.

Now, you could say that being used as a tool (objectification) is part and parcel of being a man. I would argue that everyone is objectified at some point because that's how grammar and causal chains work. But then, that's why I maintain that feminism isn't an egalitarian movement but a woman supremacist movement: they only acknowledge half that equation unless pushed, then always blame men for the whole thing.

It's a dishonest presentation of hypoagency for the purpose of obligating others support with resources in an appeal to morality.

It's definition means to be unilaterally acted upon and an inability to act/agency, and thus 'be like an object'.

There is a clear purpose to it and learning to identify and explain how it is bad is a skill you should learn.

To put it in simple terms, it’s not objectification when you depict men in a sexual way (Magic Mike etc), but it is objectification when you depict women in a sexual way.

Any gender can be objectified. Objectification is not being attracted to a woman, it's erasing the humanity of an individual and perceiving them as nothing more than a non-living thing.

Objectification towards men can look a partner referring to the man as their "wallet" (using them for money; not having consideration for their emotions). Women are often objectified sexually, especially in the porn industry (a large portion of men see women as holes to place their penises in, again without consideration for their thoughts or feelings).

Objectification is often attributed towards sexualizing women, but it is much more broad than that. The issue feminists place the title on is how men typically see women as less than human (or less than a man). For example, things like rating a girl on a scale of 1-10 based on attractiveness and referring to them by the rating ("This 6 rejected me last night") is objectifying.

If a woman were to say about a man, "This 6 rejected me last night", it would still be objectifying.

The reason feminists raise an upset about objectification is based in statistics: men are more likely to objectify women than the other way around.

In other words, just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's nonexistent. Instead of getting offended and insulting women on reddit, educate yourself. A simple google of the word "objectify" would have clarified this.

Whomever hurt you had a real point to their statements and I can see you didn't listen and got all mad about it, and have since refused to see their point. Sure maybe something of what they said stung and WASN'T correct or true, but probably because they were a bit like you, and you were just smart enough to pick up on that yourself.

But you never changed, and it shows.

Look up "rationalization" and projection and learn what those terms mean if you don't want to remain the mad boy who never developed into a man and couldn't satisfy his partners and remained single and butthurt his whole life.

It takes two to make a relationship, and sudo-"intellectualizing" a construct or concept YOU don't like, found offensive, or your partners did too (no surprise) doesn't invalidate it.

Sexual objectification is viewing someone ONLY as a sexual object, of course it has mesning. Men suffer from being objectified too, i.e. not being seen as a person but only for their services offered like money, bodyguard, choremaid etc. It cuts both ways...

It does exist but it is grossly misused when regarding women. Objectification means to present a person as an object or a commodity. This could mean that if you see a beautiful woman, and you only see that beauty as a commodity that will bring value to you if you possess it, then that is objectification. Likewise, when a woman looks at a successful or tall man, and is only attracted to him because she can commodify that trait and see herself as gaining value from that man because of it, that is objectification.

What objectification isn't, however, is a direct sexual attraction. If a man sees a beautiful woman, and it creates an emotional or sexual response in him that is just about desire, that is not objectification. That reaction would be the same whether he was alone on a deserted island or amongst all his peers. A man watching porn or leering at women also isn't objectifying them, because in neither cases would he be treating them like objects. It may be disjointed or disrespectful but it is not actually treating them like objects.

The main problem is that a lot of women will use the term objectification to simply shame men for their heterosexuality. It's a misappropriation of the word to shame straight men for their desires and attraction to women, and portray men's attraction to women as inherently dehumanizing or to imply that men are sexually attracted to objects rather than people. It is heterophobia and misandry

Objectification in the sexual sense is in essence the dehumanisation of a person, using it as a means to an end, an outlet of desire. This is something, we are taught implicitly when the sexualised images of woman everywhere, movies, magazines, series, TV, when we don't learn about female sexuality, when we are taught that man are sexual beasts so it is inevitable that we will assault woman. The objectification is real, it obviously affects men too, in just is not systemic as women's.

Objectification does exist, but just like with everything else, feminists overuse it to complain. Just listen to the average trap song. It is disgusting. Of course there is the opposite. Women objectify men all the time. Especially physically attractive and athletic men. It is just that they don’t get socially punished for this.

i've seen stuff about objectification a lot in regards to films, and it's basically just pointing out certain movies where female characters are objectified and reduced to nothing but their bodies and sexuality. It happens to male characters as well tho.
I just don't really understand this post. What do you want people to call it then if not objectification?

Objectification is when ur personality and uniqueness is stripped away and you're reduced to an object of sexual attraction and it definitely exists, this happens to famous people (some men too but mostly women) who are attractive all the time eg. professional athletes or politicians being ignored for the job they do or the skills they have in favour for how they look instead.

If objectification for women doesn't exist at all and they arent allowed to feel objectifed or heard, than objectification for men doesn't either. You're promoting harmful ideologies on a "men's rights" subreddit.

If objectification doesn't exist how can we call people out a behavior that mirrors objectification? What about when misandrists group together all the men and objectify them all as being bad does that not exist? If a woman viewed u as a sexual object solely then killed you for you had no other purpose in her eyes, how is that not objectification?
