No disrespect, but... duh. Biden knew that it'd be suicide to register women, and that if Congress tried it, even legitimately, it would fail- and it wouldn't be suicide for them to suggest it, because of course it would fail; the Republicans would make sure of that.

He also knew that the Court, which doesn't have to worry about re-election, might- MIGHT- rule otherwise, which would leave him with no choice but to either dissolve the SS (which would bring down the wrath of conservatives who see young men as disposable) or register women (which would bring down the wrath of progressives (say what you will; such people are FAR from liberal) who see all men as disposable). So he asked the Court to refrain, saying "we'll take care of it", which meant "we'll stall until everyone's forgotten about this".

Then the war in Ukraine started, and now even if Trump wanted to, he can't stop it; it'd be seen as showing political weakness, in a military sense. Neither his enemies nor his allies would tolerate that.

That this has to be settled via court ruling, rather than law, is despicable; that it'll have to be settled with the fourteenth Amendment doing the job of the thirteen is outrageous.
