The so-called modern loneliness epidemic has been getting more attention in general, but I feel that men are particularly vulnerable and I provide four reasons why

  1. From a young age, boys and men have been taught to 'man up' and subdue their emotions, and things like being sad or crying is viewed as a sign of weakness so I feel that men may not have the proper emotional outlet or support system in this manner.

  2. Modern technology and dating apps

Simply based on the sheer volume of people swiping, it can turn into a numbers game for men because of the high competition and women's selectivity. A guy could technically be an 8 or 9 and very attractive but then not even be seen for this reason and there are probably dozens of other people swiping right. Too many options and ghosting soon follows

  1. Dating and pursuing amid feminism

It seems like more guys are opting out of approaching women in public because of MeToo and worried about a harassment case, even among normal men who have good conversation skills and can handle rejection. And its always the guy who's the creep when the girl isn't interested in them. Yet many women aren't willing to be the initiators or ask for numbers because of what they've been taught. As a result, you have people who can't talk to each other and then turn to the apps.

  1. Changing population demographics

There are several studies showing that women are starting to reach and even surpass men in areas such as education and work. But many women still prefer to 'date up', for the best option and not settle for less in both height and status which is backed by research and hypergamy. This further widens the gap for men who fall short of these expectations and don't make the cut
