Tweet I’m referencing linked above.
I'm a man who has struggled with loneliness not just the “I haven't had a date in a while” kind, but the deep, hollow kind that makes you question your worth as a human being. I’ve dealt with rejection, disconnection, trauma, and isolation, and I’m actively working on myself. I’m not trying to be a victim — I’m just trying to be honest about how painful it is. But what hurts just as much as the loneliness itself is how often I see it mocked, dismissed, or politicized. Especially by people who claim to stand for compassion and justice.
The tweet that finally pushed me over the edge was one that said: "Left-wing men can't get laid because of neurodivergence, trauma, bad luck, being overworked, etc. Right -wing men can't get laid because everyone hates their personality." This wasn't some edgy troll account — it was someone with a big following, getting likes and agreement from people who’d normally be talking about mental health, inclusivity, and trauma-informed thinking. It’s the kind of take that’s treated like a mic-drop truth. But it’s actually just petty tribalism. It reduces millions of struggling men into two buckets: victim or villain, based solely on their political alignment. There’s no room for complexity, nuance, or empathy. Only mockery.
This kind of thinking isn’t just mean it’s dangerous. It pushes alreadyisolated men further away. It says: "You’re only worthy of compassion if you think like us. Otherwise, you deserve to be alone." That kind of message doesn’t heal anyone. It doesn’t solve anything. It just radicalizes the hurt, hardens the resentful, and convinces a lot of men that no one sees them as fully human. And let’s be honest: if the roles were reversed, and someone said that lonely left-wing men are just insufferable people with bad personalities, the outrage would be massive. But when it’s aimed at men perceived to be “on the wrong side,” cruelty is suddenly fair game.
I don’t want to live in a world where someone’s political beliefs determine whether they deserve love or understanding. I want a world where we stop using loneliness as a punchline where we stop moralizing who deserves connection and who doesn’t. I want more people to recognize how real this pain is, and how toxic it is to frame suffering as deserved just because someone doesn't vote the way you do. I’m not saying ideology doesn’t matter. But if we can’t offer basic compassion to people we disagree with, then maybe we’re not as progressive as we think we are.
If you’ve felt this kind of loneliness or seen this kind of rhetoric and it’s bothered you too, I’d really like to hear how you’ve dealt with it. I don’t want to stay bitter.
Also to be transparent I used chatGBT to compile my thoughts and write this out. This is the first and last time I’ll be doing this. I just wanted to try it out
