I'd never take anyone's financial assistance, but that's just me. Emotionally, I had some friends listen to me. I say that only because a lot of people only wanted to hear what happened, the gossip, but they never really followed up to ask how I was doing later. Maybe they just assumed I was doing okay because I had to carry on with work, watching the kids, etc. It sucks.

Yes, both and both. One of my two best friends rented me a room after the court granted my ex possession of the house, at below market rent, starting the very night I had to vacate in a hurry. My parents funded my lawyer. My other best friend spent way too many hours listening to me vent my misery during the whole process.

I am very, very fortunate to have each of them. It was a bad divorce, but it would have been, objectively, immeasurably worse without them.

I didn't ask for either. I just told them it's going to be ok.

My kids are grown and married and doing well. I'm working 2 jobs by choice. Free time is not my friend.

I came out of retirement when she asked me for the divorce.

Only thing I keep telling myself

No one is coming to save me. Do it yourself . Be polite. Everything happens for a reason.

At first, I was embarrassed and scared to tell anyone. But letting people I was close with in the past back in has been so rewarding. I'm glad I didn't wait until things are finalized before being vulnerable.
