I find the war on sex work especially interesting, especially how many women who freely decide to enter this business are labeled victims of human trafficking even when they do so of their own free will. I’ve read about a few incredibly expensive sting operations that were justified to combat human trafficking but in the end resulted in no incidents whatsoever of human trafficking.

Similarly, some countries are decriminalizing prostitution but making solicitation a criminal act. This is a huge departure from the idea that the supplier of an illegal service or product is more culpable than the customer. It also creates entrapment situations.

Much of this relates to the feminist notion that women don’t have the agency men do. That is to say when men commit a crime, it’s their decision, but when women do the same, it’s not their fault. Feminists use the same argument to justify women getting lighter criminal sentencing, even arguing women should never be sent to prison for their crimes.

Such double standards can have very real implications for the men caught up in these situations. Also, the argument that women don’t have agency over their actions could be used to justify not hiring women, etc., but that’s a discussion for another time.

It's true that prohibition was overwhelmingly driven by women, that many of those women were feminists, and that it was male drinking that they wanted to stop. There was definitely a gender aspect.

What was on a paper a response to a 'grassroots feminist movement' was in reality a highly lucrative (and common sense dictates, planned) enterprise for criminal organizations and political powers that profited hand over fist from graft.

You’re saying that 2/3 of the House and Senate as well as 46/48 of US states prohibited alcohol because of criminals and politicians? What’s your evidence?
