A common complaint I hear from women without straight male friends is that the men they try to befriend just end up wanting to have sex with them.

So what do you make of women who do have straight male friends and cherish their relationships with them? There even are some women who grew up preferring the company of their male friends. And often these women can be very attractive (to the mods: im not referring solely to her body either). So if a woman more attractive than you cherishes her straight male friends, then why isn’t she complaining about her male friends just trying to have sex?

IMO I don’t really understand women who mock the “male loneliness epidemic” and then they have no straight male friends. Just seems to come from the sexist notion that men are incapable of viewing women platonically and we know that is verifiably untrue. The women who hold these sexist notions are obviously in the minority as over 70% women have straight male friends.

“Half of our participants (50.0%, n = 77) reported currently having at least one close gay male friend, 71.4% (n = 110) reported having at least one close straight male friend.”

So why does this 30 or so percent of women so vehemently believe that men are all just trying to have sex with them? Is most of this sexism just trauma induced (eg bad experience with a man then avoiding half the world) or is it social media isolation?
