The response to COVID is going to go down in history as the stupidest thing our generation ever did. Which generation? Yes.

During outbreaks of the Black Death, mobs of superstitious peasants would sometimes kill black cats, thinking they were servants of the Devil, and thus responsible for the plague spreading. They had the excuse of not knowing a thing about disease or medicine; we don't. They DID, however, know basic logic; the idea that killing cats would stop the spread of the disease would make sense if the cats were responsible. Hiding "until it goes away" from a disease that simply doesn't kill, and had (according to ludicrously oversensitive PCR tests*) ALREADY jumped species several times never made sense.

A disease that no one (save SARS patients) has been exposed to before is an unknown risk, and that makes it dangerous, which is quite fair. But a potentially mutagenic medical delivery vector that not only has repeatedly killed its test subjects, but risks spreading COVID-level contagiousness to viruses that are actually DANGEROUS? That's fine. We don't need to conduct proper long-term safety tests, or focus these treatments on the vulnerable groups who actually might be threatened by the disease. Better to sacrifice the economic future of civilization and potentially the continued survival of hundreds of thousands of species than to risk getting a glorified cold.
