The first article is the lunatic ramblings of a crazy woman.

She hasn’t investigated the history, culture and religion of the community. She saw a title somewhere, got triggered and started having made up visions, in other words imagining her temper playing out.

Notice that her narrative is based on harm, disruption and anger. Meaning she’s not even interested in the community she just wants to ruin it. Not even a local, tourist or connected in anyway, some random making a fuss over nothing. Don’t mention any other monasteries to her she might need to sit down.

The second article is classic double standards. When men do something, (men are always doing something, mostly they’re the only ones doing something) that’s all patriarchy. But when women do something that’s empowerment and liberating. Honestly it’s embarrassing.

I’m not aware or want to know what’s going on here but mount athos has been a eastern orthodox Christian sanctuary that houses some of the most devout monks for centuries and it is in the traditions and laws of the mountain that no women should step foot on the island. Can the feminists PLEASE not try to make everything about themselves, let the monks worship and pray in peace.

I’m Greek and an orthodox Christian. It bothers me that Mt. Athos, an important site religiously speaking for me, is given this crazy scrutiny when other religions like Islam get away with pretty much any gender role stuff under the excuse of it being their culture.

I wonder what they teach in journalism schools now. Clearly they don't teach them to be objective, factual or unbiased. If people remember that Covington catholic school story from a few years back where they targeted one of the boys in the video. The entire story came from a 10 second YouTube video. They found a video. Created an entire story around it that aligned with their political values. They created heroes and villains within the story. It aired on all the major networks and members of Congress referenced and condemned that kid all from a 10 second video. After the story blew up and more videos were found the entire narrative the news pushed was proven wrong. That happens constantly. How can someone go to college to learn how to become something and it turns out to be so morally bankrupt. It wasn't long after that story and the Kyle Rittenhouse story broke and they got everything wrong with it too, literally everything. No we don't hate them enough.

An important note about Mount Athos is that they don't prohibit women- they prohibit females, regardless of species. The theological "justification" for this so stupid that I feel compelled to put the word in quotation marks- supposedly, after Jesus' resurrection and ascension, Mary was sailing across the Mediterranean when a storm came up and blew the boat off course, and it landed at Mt. Athos (which is a peninsula, not just a mountain), which so impressed her with its beauty that she prayed to her son to let it be her garden forever, and He agreed- and this was somehow interpreted as "no girls allowed", because, well, who knows what would happen if a woman somehow got into a garden?

The practical reason, of course, is to keep horny monks from having sex with the local animal population. It doesn't speak well of their self-control if they feel the need to go THAT far, but it also raises the point of just what these women think would happen to them if they DID get in.
