My wife and I are at the early stages of a divorce. We have a 4 year old, live in Michigan. We still live together but are separated after I filed a few weeks ago.

My stbxw is and always has been very controlling of our kid. A good friend of mine who ive been talking to through this whole thing offered to do something nice and fly my kid and I out to California to spend a weekend out there and get away for a bit. I brought this up to my stbxw and she got super controlling again and told me that I can't because "she has never been without me before". She just took our kid on a week and a half vacation to Montana not but a couple of weeks ago.

With us living together still, both having equal rights and no temporary custody order in place, I feel like there's no reason why I wouldnt be able to but figured id ask you guys and get opinions.
