How do I keep her attention after opening with a compliment?

Depends on how you're doing it.

I open with a compliment and then start walking away immediately.

If she's responding blandly, I keep walking and approach someone else.

If she's responding warmly, I let myself get reeled back in.

The reason that hits harder is because the compliment doesn't feel like a bribe.

You see, if you compliment someone and stick around, the compliment feels less sincere, like you're just buttering her up for whatever you want from her.

But if you leave, you show her that you actually didn't want anything, so she's free to accept the compliment fully and react to it without holding back as much.

And you getting reeled back in if she lights up makes her feel like she earned your attention more. Almost like it's partly her idea to continue the conversation.

And then from there, I usually say, "You knows what, you're actually really friendly" and then I make a lighthearted assumption about her instead of going straight into questions.

Why?

Because we're the one approaching. We're already there trying to get something, so it's better to give more in the beginning.

When you ask a question, you're immediately trying to take a little bit.

When you make a statement in the form of an assumption, you're giving to the interaction.

And then from there the volley of questions and statements begin.

Also instead of asking question after question, try to respond to what she says with your thoughts and you relating to it, and you can playfully mess with her too.

And then after more input from you, you can ask a question.

And just continue that cycle throughout the interaction while also adding in flirting and playful challenges and genuinely assessing her to find out if she's actually a good match for you.

When the interaction is going great I also like to add touches like reminding her that she was going somewhere so that if she says it can wait she's further owning the decision to keep talking to you.

In Romania, if you give a compliment to someone you don't know on the street, you're either a player who does this often (which is not a good sign it’s seen as an intrusive uneducated gypsy attitude), or you're at the other extreme, a loner who stands there jaw-dropped when he sees a girl (and this isn't good either)... ..is a clear sign you want to talk to her, but you don't have anything creative to say... and the chance of rejection is huge right from the opener. Things change if she is actually wearing an interesting accessory, otherwise, it doesn't work to force a compliment, because she knows it’s forced.

However, ironically, the compliment thing is awkward in Romanian, but if you address her in English, she doesn't find it strange at all.

Giving someone a compliment with the true intent of holding their attention hostage is manipulation. Cowardly shit. If you see someone you want to eanestly connect with go up to them and introduce yourself and explain yourself without games.

If you open with a compliment, chain another opener after it.

It helps to have a more coherent plan where you think a bit past the opener. Not too far, but like... where do you want to take the conversation? What is your plan for the first 30 seconds or so. You should have a general outline to serve as a base for freestyling it.

Also think about how it can tie in with the type of close you want. Number? Instant date?
