Can't say. I've never let a girlfriend have that kind of influence on my actions and decisions.

Having said that, in my dating days, if I made plans with my girlfriend, I would never break those plans. My word is my bond.

That wouldn't be a case of "my girlfriend won't let me." It'd be a case of "already got plans."

Yes, it's prejudice against men in thinking that the man must be violently preventing the woman from going, but not vice versa. In reality the man is just saying at most, our relationship is contingent upon you not doing x because that violates my boundaries.

This is true. Though, I would never let a woman tell me I couldn't do something. Likewise, I wouldn't tell my woman she couldn't do something. If she's about to do something she knows I don't want her to do (for example, a bachelorette party) then we have bigger problems than the party itself.

And if one of those people don't like you and calls the cops? There is a DA that wants to put you on his Domestic Violence prosecution list to get more federal dollars for his office. There is also a shit ton of social workers and psychiatrists waiting to work with you as assigned by the courts...at your own expense of course.

For those of you who think this is just incidental to modern society, here is my take: that it is fundamental to our current stage in the cycle of civilization.

This is "sperm is cheap, eggs are expensive" meets "weak men create hard times."

In a less civilized setting where survival is on the line, the "strong men create good times" factor keeps in check the tendency to placate and pedestalize women.

It's the same as the fact that a guy who bangs a different woman every week is a legend, whereas a woman is a slut.

Societal expectations combined with our biology.

Its easy for a woman to get laid. She could literally sign up for tinder and have sex within a few hours with little to no effort. For most guys, it will take a lot longer.

If a woman says she can't come out because her boyfriend won't let her, we think that he physically won't let her. When a guy says he can't come out, we don't think that she is physically stopping him, we think she'll just be grumpy if he does.

That isn't to say the above is right or wrong. It's just the way it is.

I guess ir would also depend on the type of society you live in. I’ve seen social dynamics where the oposite it true. A man declining an invitation because the girlfriend won’t let him go would be interpreted as “he doesn’t wear the pants in this relationship” and a woman declining an invitation because the boyfriend wouldn’t let her go would be seen as normal.

In the end it’s society and all it’s invented rules that gives us that notion of “right and wrong”. Don’t let silly social misconceptions rule your life
