This isn't really an issue imho.

Remember that professional sports exists solely because of people's desire to watch them play. In a spectator sport, the spectators get to decide (by choosing to spend money on tickets/merchandise) where the money goes.

There is plenty of interest in women's tennis, to where it's approximately equal in popularity to men's tennis. Names like Federer and Nadal are about as recognizable as Williams and Sharapova. I don't see why they shouldn't all be paid similar amounts of money.

There's no pay equality in other sports like basketball or golf, because there isn't equal interest from the spectators. That's just how it works.

he has a very good point. women's tennis is really boring, i'm not even in to tennis but i was watching tennis while waiting for my car to get repaired.

women's tennis was boring then they played men's tennis holy shit my heart was pumping with excitement those guys gave 110% at every single try even leaping at balls that i thought there was no way they could get....and when they did catch those far out balls the crowd went wild. men's tennis is great entertainment as those guys give so much of them selves in each match i would think they need to take the rest of the week off to recover, they make every second worth watching.

when i was watching women's tennis they put so little effort some times it felt like they didn't want to get too tired because they wanted to go out with their friends after the tennis match.

maybe i'm just a noob at tennis but men's tennis really got me interested in tennis while women's tennis made me want to take a nap.

If women did play best of 5 at the slams like the men, the whole equal pay argument would probably be completely different.
