Everytime an article is written on the topic of illigetimate children in this country, they always point to careers and women's independence/self reliance as the cause. Then they bash the fathers by claiming they did not take responsibility by pursuing marriage. The little research I have done shows that prior to 1973, out of wedlock births were under 14%. Even with contraceptive choices and abortion legalized, the rate shot up to over 40% today. Prior to 1973, illigetimate kids were excluded from Child Support programs. That kept out of wedlock birthrates in check. It was also the reason women fought to legalize abortion. Does anyone have any opinions on this? I need to hear your thoughts on this. If single parenthood is negatively affects children's futures, could the "best interest of the child" argument for CS be wrong? As in CS promotes single parenthood today and thus affects the stability of future society.
