It could have gotten into a ton more detail, such as overtime, hours worked, household numbers, among others. Warren Farrell goes into far more depth, and I'd suggest your friend read up on his books to improve his article.

The only thing I would suggest, if he is attempting to perform a detailed breakdown of bad statistics, would be to point to what the statistics he is using do and do not show.

That is, that while women make the same in the same field, that doesn't show that there is no sexism at work in the workplace, as gender norms may push men to seek more dangerous/more hours/higher-paying work and also discourage women from doing the same.

I.e.

Man wants to be a nurse instead of a doctor: "What about your family, don't you want to PROVIDE for them?"

Woman wants to be a doctor instead of a nurse: "What about your family, you won't have any time to TAKE CARE of them?"

Money is influence when it comes to modern society. It is misleading to say that women make 77 cents on the dollar a man makes, but it highlights a critical point of systemic discrimination; that is the failure of society to foster female participation in STEM education, and as a result, excluding women from a majority of the high earning fields. That is a serious discussion worth having.
