It is frustrating to see how little PRACTICAL information there is out there on how to be witty or funny. There are no self help books (with decent reviews) and very few useful youtube videos on this subject.

There are plenty of reddit and other posts from people asking the question and the answers are always the same: Read more books, hang around funny people, watch standup etc. These are all perfectly acceptable on the assumption that the person is capable of learning wit and humour through osmosis.

I hang around funny people all the time, I love watching comedies and standups and I read a lot of books - and yet in 30 years of my life I would not consider myself a funny person and really struggle with witty comebacks. I get through life by having high social status and good looks but humour is something missing from my arsenal and I want to find a way to fix this. Wit and humour will also help with shit tests from men / women - currently I tend to ignore or give sarcastic responses back but this is quite limiting. We all know women (and men) like funny people and this helps with social status.

Can anyone give any practical advice? Telling me to watch more standups and read more books isn't helpful advice as it hasn't worked to date. By practical advice I mean pointing me in the direction of things I can do or practice to improve, or self help books/guides on the subject. For example I've read that word association games are a good way to improve lateral thinking and therefore wit. Are there any other games or practical exercises I can be doing that will help me learn to construct witty comebacks or funny comments on my feet?
