A few days ago I posted here about the hesitation people get when approaching someone in public. I got some good advice, so today I decided to actually try it.

I was on a train heading downtown and noticed a girl sitting a few seats away. The train was mostly empty and we made eye contact once before boarding.

After fighting the hesitation for a bit, I finally approached her and asked if she’d mind if I sat in front of her. She said, “Actually yeah, I do mind.”

I just replied, “No worries, I only wanted to say I thought you were pretty.” She thanked me.

Then I think I made the mistake of overexplaining that I’m trying to become more social and confident talking to people. Looking back, I probably should’ve kept it shorter.

I ended it respectfully and wished her a good day.

Honestly, even though it didn’t go anywhere, I’m glad I did it because I normally wouldn’t have had the confidence to try. Any advice on what I could’ve done better?
