This is the modern day trolly problem. It is not designed to reflect on men or bears, but instead is designed to expose the subconscious emotional state of the respondent. This is quite a clever hypothetical when you think about it because it requires the subject defend their position with logic. It is the answer that is interesting because the user thinks it is a reflection of society but in actuality it is a reflection of their own desires.

So a woman who chooses the man, believes that a man is less danger than a bear because she may have had interactions with bears and men and has concluded that a half ton grizzly is far more dangerous than a slightly overweight father of 2.

However a woman who chooses the bear sees a man as manipulative, hyper violent and unpredictable. She has not had many if any interactions with a bear so she might think of them as a slightly large dog... Maybe weighing 200 lbs. This way she infantalizes a bear to be equal to a dog which she has deemed as safe. Bear =dog and dog=golden retriver so bear =golden retriever. Man on the other hand is more dangerouse because: what if? What if is dangerous because you can assign to it anything you can imagine. In reality women are afraid of her own imagination and her own tendancies. If she would or could do it, then a man WILL do it.

The reality is that 100% of bears are killers, but only a small percentage of men are killers. This however is where psychology and logic come into play. When a woman chooses the bear, she isn't choosing the bear as much as she is simply not choosing the man. Both are scary but she has more interactions with men and zero with bears. So by choosing the bear she believes she is actually choosing between a dangerous man and no interaction with a bear. Understanding this makes her logic understandable even when we recognize the logic as flawed.

So as one can see the question reveals flawed logic in the same way as the trolly problem. There is a right answer but it isn't important because the study is about why people use flawed logic to make decisions in the first place.

It takes genuine insanity to prefer death to rape/torture- even death by "getting ripped to shreds". Putting aside the whole misandrist association of "men = rape/torture", they'd have to already have a desire for euthanasia. Someone in late-stage cancer might prefer death to rape/torture, but an able-bodied misandrist otherwise w a whole life ahead of them choosing death instead of (the risk of) rape/torture? It's pathetic posturing or a lack of appreciation for life so pathological that any suffering whatsoever is seen as the worse option. "I'd rather die than chip a nail."

That "logic" applies moreso in the "women suffer more in war than men" assertion given that women may be raped/tortured and survive more (if they're even anywhere near war zones in the first place rather than having been evacuated (by men) or safely back home)... while men are simply killed. There's no choice offered in war, but, if there were, men would generally choose "women's suffering" over being outright dead. According to a feminist that's misogyny...

Funny point made by the OP though- that "man v bear" gets mentally converted by a feminist into "Ted Bundy v Winnie the Pooh". Now that's a hard choice! The funnier "test" is putting the man and bear in separate elevators that open at the same time and letting the feminist decide which they prefer to enter.
