... And particularly my trust.

My SO was invited over for some beers and wanted to bring me along. It was mostly his guy friends and it was pretty relaxed and overall enjoyable & fun. After a while some of the guys decided to go home and one of them wanted to head out to town. While I was off saying my goodbyes to the others, my SO had a talk with this guy and I return to them asking if I wanted to come into town. I say I unfortunately don't have my ID with me and the other guy sets off.

My SO then leans in and says he's been offered some coke downtown if we go in and is basically considering it. At this point I felt sick because it's not the sort of man I'd like to put my trust in. We've spoken about it in the past and he's said that he has no interest in it anymore (has used frequently in the past but not directly abused it).

I couldn't let it go and brought it up when we came home and it caused some upset. I basically got frank with him and said if he feels he has an urge for this in his life, I need to revaluate because it's not the sort of man I'd like to invest anything in. He was very offended, and I can understand why.

Overall I feel shitty for getting upset when he, in actuality, did not act on his impulse when he had room to. I feel scared that he is having these impulses and (as he admitted himself) if I was indifferent about it, he'd most definitely do it. It's admirable that he changes his actions based on my opinions, but I don't feel this is as reliable of a mindset as him making his mind up on his own. Ergo being able to make the judgement that "certain shit is bad for me and my life and I am an adult who's mature enough to resist it".

I'm very conflicted. I feel like I was in the wrong for being upset about it, but I feel I am justified in being upset considering his past. We agreed to put it behind but I'm feeling this may have dented my trust more than it should've.

RPW, am I an emotional idiot for questioning my man's judgement before he'd acted upon it? I need some guidance in how to process this in a way that doesn't hurt him (or us), alternatively how to make up for denting my trust and faith in him.
