You really sound like a troll, not sure what you're looking for underneath all this validation seeking information??

I suppose if I were to give this a shot assuming you're not a troll, you should be trying harder to be firm in your resolve to be taken seriously while maintaining a good feminine balance but you placed yourself in this situation, didn't you know before hand what type of situation this was? You must have seen this coming at some point during your education. Didn't you have any mentors during your education phase?

Has to be a troll at this point, she hasn't responded to anything.

This isn't a redpill issue. A ton of graduates aren't able to get jobs they want right now, that's simply just the economy. Yes, get your foot in the door. You went to.school but you have no experience in the field. Smaller jobs are not below you, and trying to get anywhere on your looks is laughable and certainly wont get you taken seriously.

You millenials really need to get over yourselves.

As a 22 year old working her way up in a male dominated industry, I would say you don't seem willing to "earn your place," as it's put at my job. Have you stayed at any of your jobs for longer than a year? I am entering my third year with my employer, and I just got a promotion and pay raise last month. No employer wants to be a stepping stone. Find a place you could see yourself working at for at least 5 years, and start at the bottom. If your work ethic is as impeccable as you say, they will notice.

About the intelligence thing: I'm smart, young, and pretty (just like you), but the smart mostly helps with education. Wait for someone to ask you a question instead of volunteering information, and they will value your answer much more, because they asked for it. The more eager-beaver you are to jump into conversations, whether or not you have something great to contribute, the more likely it is that you will be overlooked. Everyone listens when the "quiet person" speaks up.

Edit to add: Just your pleasant smile, and cheerful "good morning!" are enough to be appreciated at work, especially if you're one of few women. Stop trying to hard to get noticed, and just be noticeable! Men are happy to watch out for a woman's best interests when she doesn't seem to be more focused on fending for herself and promoting her work ethic and intelligence. I say this as someone who would've posted the exact same post three years ago if my boss had not taken me under his wing and chosen to groom me into someone who can make it in this industry. His number one piece of advice to me: "Do not be defensive!"

Hope this helps.

No one that I have ever met, family, friends, boyfriends, coworkers, has ever taken my knowledge seriously.

You are 21 years old. Not being taken seriously is par for the course; if you expect to be taken seriously you are going to be very disappointed for the next thirty years of your life. If you go around huffing and puffing about not being taken seriously, you are probably acting like a spoiled brat know-it-all.

Try being gracious and quit expecting to be entitled to everything. Quit trying to get by on your looks and "brains (hahahaha)", quit even thinking about sucking up to bosses.

Look, you are a young woman who has a little too much "self-esteem" you aren't smarter than everyone else, but you do come across as an entitled know-it-all who wants something for nothing and is unwilling to work your way up the ladder. You want to start at the top and receive the respect that people 30 years older have EARNED through 3 decades of experience.

I think your entitled attitude shines through when you send out your resumes and interview; Look at this bragging post and see how gross your attitude is. If you were interviewing with me I would be looking at you sideways and I would send you on your merry way.

  1. I'm turning 25 in 6 months and people gasp in disbelief when I tell them I am about to start my masters and state how they thought I was "like 16 or something" so sorry. It's nothing new and you're not unique - get over being treated young. Once you hit 30+ you're going to kill for that treatment again.

  2. You are in environmental science, you're working in an elementary school and you expect to be paid a lot? I'm assuming you only have your bachelors. You're barking up the wrong tree if you think you're qualified to be making the big bucks at this point in your life. You're young and you're not in an in demand field. Either put in the time to get to the point that you can except dream jobs and high salaries or get into a field that you can expect that out right. Everyone's got to start low on the totem pole.

  3. You sound really entitled and it's gross.

I smell a troll, aside from the fact this is entirely irrelevant to the sub.

We don't focus on careers here. Move along.

Entitled much?

Do you really expect someone to just give you a job? I don't know about you, but the majority of us had to work hard to get where we are. For me, that was including, but not limited to, sending out thousands of resumes, and I picked a major with good hiring prospects. I don't know about Enviormental Science, but for most careers, your first job out of college is going to be extreamly hard to get. The more impacted it is, the harder it will be to find a job.

If you want people to take you seriously, I suggest you start taking yourself and your job search seriously. No one is going to take anyone seriously who instead of actually looking for work, sits around whining about "sexism in the work place" being the cause of their problem. You want to know a secret about men dominated fields? Men judge people on their abilities rather than their gender. If you can show them you know your shit, they will take you seriously.

You want my advice on getting a job? Work your ass off, explore avenues that your peers haven't tried, know your shit, and stop whining.
