My take is that by nature you're in your employer's frame they are the one with something to give, but they also need somebody for the job they have. Present yourself as confident, willing to learn, and social competent

Reverse the role, what would you be looking for in an employee?

As a manager, I want somebody who will get the job done, not cause disruption, work well with my team.

Your frame should be something along the lines of - "I can fix your problems, I am not erratic, I am likeable, I am a teamplayer".

Don't be cocky/arrogant/know-it-all.

I've found that fake it till you make it works pretty well in interviews. I have 10 years of experience in my field so that helps obviously but if I interview for a position that might be a little outside of my knowledge I will act like I know what I'm talking about and it works every time. I went from $11 an hour driving to working 5 days a week to over $30 an hour working from home and making my own hours by doing this. Know your shit but be prepared to fake it if you have to.

I look first at "would I want to work there, for that operation? who would be my boss? who would be my peers? who would report to me?"

You want to determine if you can be successful in the role based on your skills vs. the skills required, as well as are there any issues with other people? Is the right support there?

Then, also think in terms of long term goals. Does the position set you up for the next step up later? Is it the job you need to prepare you for your next job after?

Approach it like you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you.

Speaking with a lot of interview experience in healthcare, aim to be more submissive than usual. Show that you can follow and respect authority. Someone non-coach able will not fit well in a team. Aside from that hold frame when giving stories that highlight your competency in communication, team work, independence, etc.

As someone who's been on both sides of a lot of interviews, I can say that a lot of it depends on who's interviewing you. But natural intelligence, charm, wit, and expertise the job / role go a long way.
