I have always been a good saver when it comes to money. I just turned 30 and I have more than 1x my income saved, but I grew up not well off, and have a lot of money based anxiety. I also live somewhere where rent is much higher than average, so I feel weird about spending over half my income on rent, even though I make a good amount.

I have lived with different friend groups over the past 5 years. Both times I stopped living with them because they got married, so it was the natural break. The roommates I live with now are long time friends as well. However, now that I'm coming into my own, I realize ways that they aren't emotionally mature, which comes out as drama. I don't engage with it the best I can, and it's not often, but last week they ended up both being passive aggressive about an issue. We eventually came to a resolution after I emotionally walked them through it and set boundaries. I'm very """chill""" so I really didn't mind but it occurred to me that... I don't need to be people's parents anymore. They also have talked about maybe moving back with their parents after our lease is up (not for a long time) so I wouldn't have to worry about them feeling abandoned, since they already have potential plans.

It slowly dawned on me that I could be the one to decide it was time to leave, and live alone next year. Yes, I will not be able to save as much, but I would also be able to get a pet and play my instruments, have a ton of plants, decorate how I want, without worrying about judgement, or inconveniencing anyone. I realized that the thought of getting to nest made me Happy.

I would also just feel more "adult."

I felt before like I'd never be able to afford to live alone without a partner, but now I'm realizing there's no sense in waiting if living alone is going to make me happy it's worth the extra money.

It feels a little silly to be an adult and be like "wow it just occurred to me, I'm allowed to do this thing?!"

I felt the same way when I traveled abroad alone. Like.... Is anyone going to try and stop me? No? Ok.
