There's a whole lotta filler in this article, bro. I kept thinking: just get to the point already. There's a lot of build up but then when you do finally get to the point, its not extraordinary at all.

You say: Loneliness turns you into a desperate, needy Nice Guy. Which makes you a prime candidate for Beta Bucks and getting walked all over by your girl.

That's going to be stating the obvious to almost everyone on this forum.

Your solution: Don't do that. Instead "manage your loneliness" and "turn it into something productive." Gee, thanks.

If your target audience is newbies, then this may be interesting for them. Otherwise, it lacks a fresh perspective on both the problem and the solution.

I almost lost my job because of it. I had no one to talk to, never went to parties (because there are none), only very superficial conversations at work...The last time I celebrated my birthday was about 9 year ago. I couldnt/can't bear it.

I honestly do not think that loneliness can be properly assuaged through throwing yourself into other things, like journaling. For sure, it can give you a greater drive and that drive can allow you to get amazing things accomplished, but it won't replace the feelings of love from others. It just doesn't. If it did, men would never need anything other than work.

However, I believe that strong connections with others can reduce the need for sex. Hanging out with male friends is a good way to stave off loneliness. There are other ways, too. But I don't think that your article is accurate in implying that loneliness is something you can 100% deal with by focusing on other activities. That is just not biologically accurate. Humans need company or we suffer.

BTW, you said this:

Do you have a source for it? I haven't read that before.

P.S. If you are running a Wordpress platform, go into your settings, click on 'permalink settings' and set it to 'post name'. This will allow your link addresses to have your post titles in them instead of the random characters, like /?p=252.

I appreciate the ambition but have some issues.

Lonely men are not the core customers for strippers and prostitutes. They are patronized by a representative sample of men: mostly partnered and often quite happily so.

Likewise, lonely men are not the core customers for alpha-widow single moms, post-wall peaches, or distressingly fat women. Believe it or not, men of all sorts eat that shit up.

Finally, and goddammit -- appreciate solitude! I love my wife and kids more than anything and it's nice to have people who at the end of the day have to hang out with you ... but you give up a lot when you become accountable, even in the most loving way, to someone else for every second of every day you're not traveling on business. When I was single -- even I'll admit lonely single for a couple of stretches, I read great books, went overseas on whims, got in monstrously good shape by the simple expedient, started on a whim, of skipping dinner and spending 2 hours in the gym every night.

Thanks for the post. I was a bit disappointed though. Much of the article was just a summary of other readily available information. The meat of the article for me was:

The answer is to manage loneliness, turn it into something productive. If you cannot prevent a circumstance, you can at least mold it into something more desirable. Lonely feelings have manufactured some of the best literature on the planet. Loneliness is responsible for a great many heartfelt songs played on repeat across decades. Loneliness is the setting in which creators arrive to their epiphany.

Loneliness, in this light, can be a gift.

I think the reader would appreciate additional ideas on how to manage the loneliness. Sure we can refocus our attention, but that can seem pretty empty at times.

never want to imply that it’s good to spend all of your time alone or that it’s a good character trait. It isn’t. Being lonely isn’t good for the soul. Maybe it builds character but there’s a point where character building stops and living life starts. What I do want to imply is that it is better to not require constant attention, approval or validation from family, friends, peers and colleagues.

If you’re lonely then don’t be alone. Go meet people. Be around people. If people don’t want to be around you then that is a problem you need to correct. Lonely people have a lot of negative energy surrounding them and it’s a real turn-off to other people. That wasted energy should instead be used for self-improvement. Don’t let your loneliness become a self-fulfilling prophecy. A lot of lonely people talk themselves into staying lonely and they talk others into staying away.
