she had a few zit-looking marks around her snatch

Could be due to shaving ...

[–]Dalton711 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Back when I used to shave my pubes instead of trimming them, after sex I'd have dozens of sore red bumps caused by the friction of sex on the short hairs. I have no STDs so that wasn't what it was. Shaving rashes and rashes caused by friction do look fucking sus though.

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points36 points 12 years ago* (14 children) | Copy Link

Fellas, there's no reason to get hysterical about this. By far the most serious risk you face out there, in terms of likelihood and severity, is unwanted pregnancy. STD's pale in comparison.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea - Fairly common and easily transmissible, but they're also fully curable with antibiotics and condoms are very effective in preventing transmission. Infection, even untreated, is eventually cleared from the body like most bacterial infections (the specifics are not well studied due to medical ethics) and rarely leads to serious long term complications, particularly in men. A lot of people would be surprised to learn that medical authorities (Mayo Clinic, U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, etc) do not recommend regular testing for these diseases for heterosexual men. If you are getting tested regularly for these that's about all you need to worry about them. Non-issue.

HPV - It's everywhere, it usually comes and goes before you know you've had it, everyone's going to get it at some point, and there's not much you can do about it other than celibacy. Chances are good that you've already been exposed to it. That's why they won't vaccinate people over 27 or whatever it is - you probably have already been exposed to it and already have antibodies for it. Vaccination would be redundant. This one's not worth worrying about either. Women get your pap smears, and that's it.

HSV - Lifelong, common, not totally prevented by condom use. Here's a study using 1500 "serologically discordant for HSV-2 infection" couples that evaluated the effectiveness of condoms and antivirals in preventing transmission of HSV: http://www.medscape.org/viewarticle/472427_2. Findings: For the 8 month period of the study, in just 2.2% of the couples in the control group (no antivirals) did HSV spread from one to the other. There was not a single instance of symptomatic HSV spreading from one couple to the other among those using both antivirals and condoms regularly. It's simply not that easy to spread. You can have regular unprotected sex with a women with HSV-2 for years, and more likely than not, you will not be infected. You're far, far more likely to get someone pregnant, and pregnancy is a bit more severe than an occasional rash.

HIV - Prevented by condom use, very difficult to spread, and strongly dependent on demographics. You could fuck every girl on campus raw and you're not gonna get HIV. Forget about it.

Syphilis - Same as HIV but treatable. If you're not a gay man in the hood or a 17th century sailor, this one's not even on your radar.

One final note, it's not politically correct to say it too loudly, but there's a strong demographic component to all of these diseases. Over half of black women have HSV. The rate of chlamydia is something like 8 times higher among blacks than whites. Public health information is disseminated with the most at-risk groups in mind. Apply that to your life however it's applicable.

STD's are worth thinking about but don't let them keep you from living your life.

[–]Tombstone31 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Last I heard, there's a strain of gonorrhea going around that doesn't respond to antibiotics. So add it to the list of STD's that might be with you for a while.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Gonorrhea has over time developed some resistance to whatever antibiotic of the day was used to treat it. Some of the antibiotics that used to work no longer work reliably (for now). It is still curable by antibiotics we have available for it today.

'Super Uncurable Gonorrhea' generates page views, but the truth of the matter is that there is currently no such thing.

mcwilshire conveniently left out HSV-1 which is trasmittable through kissing and oral sexual contact.

[–]Enphuego 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The female to male transmission rate for HIV is 0.01–0.38% for unprotected sex. Incidence rate in US females 19-25 is around 0.06%.

College campus of 30,000 -> 15,000 women x 0.06% = 9 infected women x 0.25% chance of catching HIV = around a 2% chance of catching HIV after fucking your whole college campus raw.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"CDC estimates that 1,144,500 persons aged 13 years and older are living with HIV infection"

"Women accounted for 20% of estimated new HIV infections in 2010 and 24% of those living with HIV infection in 2009"

http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/statistics/basics/ataglance.html

1,144,500 X 0.24 = 274,680 women with HIV in the United States

Out of 119,292,801 women in the US.

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0884102.html

That's one in 434.

Assuming that the women on your college campus are a representative cross section of society that includes a proportional number of IV drug users, prostitutes, low income inner city residents, 1 in 434 women on your college campus have HIV.

A ridiculously large overestimate, but let's continue.

If your college campus has 30,000 students and half are women, you've got 35 with HIV. In reality this number is far lower, but let's go with 35.

The transmission rate per exposure for the male partner for unprotected vaginal sex is 4 in 10,000.

http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/policies/law/risk.html

So your risk of acquiring HIV by having unprotected sex with every woman on campus, assuming your college campus has the same HIV prevalence rates as society as a whole, is 1.4%

[–]Endorsed ContributorUsherai 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unless you're shooting up and sharing needles, fucking black chicks in the ass raw, or fucking dudes raw, chances of getting HIV are basically nil.

Excellent post mcwilshire, thank you for sharing it.

[–]sexypriest 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Zit looking marks were propably inflamed hair. Most STDs look nasty, even HPV and HSV.

But even when it looks wrong it might not be STD. There is a condition (propably autoimmune) that makes white patches on vulva called lichen sclerosus. If you google it you may find some really bad cases, but most of the time its just a small white patch. I know because I have the male version of it (balanitis).

Girl told me a week after that she had HPV. I wrap up every time, though am still not sure if I have a strain (most likely do since I have been sexually active for over a decade.). Maybe this will be the last lesson I need to start asking women about their sexual health and history before fucking them….

Given that you do not wish to be diseased, you should screen chicks as well, and also not have one night stands you picked up at the local club or bar while under the influence of whatever.

[–]MooMooMooN 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh I'm with ya.. I've already had chlamydia about 10 years ago from an ex-girlfriend I dated for two years.. she was "bi" and thought it was cool to make out with other "bi" girls at the bar. "That wasn't cheating.. I'm bi!!"

shakes his head I was so naive.

[–]ogalvan 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

The craziest part about it is that HSV 1 (that's Herpes Simplex Virus 1 aka cold scores) is transmittable through kissing. Not only that but about 60-80% of women have it by age 50 and 20% of the overall population has it. If a woman with HSV1 were to give you a blowjob - surprise, you now have genital Herpes! How great is that?

I don't understand how all the guys here can so casually spin plates and not worry about STD's like this that are transmitted just through kissing. I wouldn't want to even kiss a slut that's been with 20 dudes. How do you even know a girls been with dudes? There needs to be a carfax for women or something.

Pretty much everybody has HSV 1, you'd have to pretty much never kiss or share food with anybody in your life not to get it, plus once you get it, the anti-bodies prevent you from spreading it to other parts of your body.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/01/050106111129.htm

[–]WillClickOnAnything 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, pot smokers are probably in the 100% range on hsv1

[–]ogalvan 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I wouldn't consider that study an accurate reflection of the U.S. population as a whole. They only took a sample of 50 patients of which 78% were African American. It's been well documented that African Americans have higher rates of infection (HIV/HSV1/HSV2) and also aren't 78% of the US population. Also, the article makes no distinction between the ages of all the participants. "19-71" could be one 19 year old (who tested negative) and 49 people ages 50-71. But you're right, it is prevalent, which makes it all the more worrisome whenever/if ever you are getting a blowjob since HSV 1 can become genital Herpes.

[–]KingJohnTX 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/guide/understanding-cold-sores-basics

Says 90% of all people have it, and as long as you have the anti-bodies in your system already, your chances of getting it anywhere else on your body is pretty slim. So unless you get a blowjob directly from a girl who has a clear cold sore on her lip, the chances of getting infected on your genitals is minimal.

There was no ambiguity, you just lack reading comprehension. There is a clear distinction between people having something "by a certain age" and "within an age group".

John Hopkins:

http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/healthlibrary/conditions/oral_health/mouth_infections_85,P00888/

About 50 percent to 80 percent of US adults have oral herpes. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), by age 50, approximately 90 percent of adults have been exposed to the virus.

Note that they don't distinguish HSV-1 "herpes" from HSV-2 "herpes". That's because HSV-1 is mostly "oral herpes" but can be "genital herpes" but not vice-versa.

I made no mistake, you're just bad at reading like Redups and I have pointed out. It's okay, there's no shame in it. After all, most political speeches are not even written at a high school level.

Don't try to say I'm wrong because I stated 60-80% of women by age 50 when the NIH says 90% of adults by age 50. That's like correcting someone who says half of Americans are women by saying that it's 51% not half. No study is absolute. Also, since I'm assuming you're not gay (you are at TRP after all) I didn't think including men had relevance, but hey, if you're worried about getting Herpes from men I'm sure there's a study out there that will give you those numbers. Go look. Also, unless every single person is tested and documented there can not be an "absolute" answer. Quote from Science Friday (linked below):

DR. LEONE: So if you look at some population-based data in the United States and look at unmarried adults, meaning folks between the ages of 45 and 50, for women, we know the prevalence rate for genital herpes due to HSV-2 is between 50 and 70 percent.

Note that that Dr. is not disagreeing with the numbers from the NIH, but offering a range instead of "by a certain age". Also it is clearly talking about HSV-2 and not HSV-1.

http://www.npr.org/2011/04/15/135442942/even-without-symptoms-genital-herpes-can-spread

[–]ogalvan -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

As an engineer, it always amuses me when someone attempts to correct my math.

Per reuters:

About 21 percent of women were infected with genital herpes, compared to only 11.5 percent of men

http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/03/09/ps-herpes-usa-idUSN0923528620100309

Note your false assumption that men must have an infection rate equal to that of women. Also that article does NOT include HSV-1 but is merely talking about HSV-2.

Or maybe you lack the required knowledge to distinguish the difference between HSV-1 (which I wrote about in my first comment), genital herpes (which is cited in that article) which is either HSV-1 or HSV-2 that is located in the genital area, HSV-2 (which is located solely in the genital area) as opposed HSV-1 located in the mouth. I know that's all probably confusing for you; hence why I didn't include it in my original comment. If you're all that curious go read up on the subject yourself. Don't correct someone about a subject you know nothing about.

EDIT: I read it in another survey which I can no longer find and/or is not reputable enough to link. See the John Hopkins article. 50-80% is not that far off from 60-80%

You get the virus only when it's in active phase e.g. she has cold sore. When virus is not active (most of the time) it won't be transmitted.

However due to heavy use of cosmetics those sores can be fully masked.

If a woman with HSV1 were to give you a blowjob - surprise, you now have genital Herpes! How great is that?

It doesn't work like that.

[–]beginner_ 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you get yourself blowed by a girl with cold sores your stupid of course. For most it is asymptomatic, eg,. never get a single cold sore. And over 80% of adults have antibodies against it. Most get infected in childhood through parents/family.

More people are infected because more women cheat and then don't tell their partner. This is another reason t wrap it up even in an LTR. You never know when she cheats and doesn't admit it. If she suddenly want to use condoms again, you know what's up.

banged a chick even though she had a few zit-looking marks around her snatch.

Just a heads up: It was probably herpes, and you probably contracted it. Most STD tests don't actually test for herpes unless you specifically ask, because it's so common.

Umm you can get zits on your genitals and pubic area.

I already know everything there is to know about the herp. No, I don't have it. I've been tested, specifically, for hsv-1 and 2. I have a feeling this might disappoint you.

Haha you're probably right, it's pretty sad if that's the case.

Well, if you don't have HSV-1, it's actually a little bit sad. Most people get that from being held by relatives and kissing.

You come across as deeply unlikable. That's sadder.

And yet people who are careful and selective can have quite a lot of sex partners while still remaining free of the virus, verifiable by testing.

It also helps if you are careful not to place things that other people have on their lips (drinking glasses, straws, utensils, cigarettes, hookahs, etc) up to your own lips.

So basically, never do anything fun to avoid a largely inconsequential disease.

Is that why we have canine teeth? Is this why we hunted for millenia before agriculture? Get the fuck outta here with that vegan bullshit

Are they called fangs in English?

Not unless you're a vampire. They're called teeth.

[–]elchoma90 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Haha we have four fangs. What is the name in English?

Ah, canine teeth or the dental term: cuspid. 2 pointy at the top and 2 pointy at the bottom.
