I never understood why MGTOW can't just be a dude living a normal life who just happens to not bother with relationships.

There are four levels of MGTOW, according to the internet:

Rejecting long-term relationships. "Marriage is retarded, but I'll still spin plates and be careful not to impregnate any of them." (most of us are probably here)
Rejecting short-term relationships. "Even spinning plates is too risky/not worth the effort. I'll just masturbate/practice semen retention and focus on other things." (some uber-monk type guys would be here)
Economic disengagement. "Why should I provide for anyone other than myself? I'll only pay taxes as necessary and keep everything off the books." (Traveling MGTOW's could fit here, although most of them spin plates.)
Societal disengagement. "Society is rapidly going to shit. I'm going to move off the grid and practice sustainable living. Adios, muchachos." (This is what you're referring to. Elements of it appeal to me, but I don't know any guys who actually want this in totality.)

There are a lot of ways to approach this, many of which other contributors here have spelled out well. Each man's choice will depend on what appeals to him and best fits his own circumstances. Hitting the eject button and simply leaving the country was my choice - why stick around and support a horrible system that does its level best to make your life difficult? Obviously not all men have this as a viable option.

If remaining in your home country you could simply work a minimum wage job, pay as little tax as possible, and drop out as best you can. If at all possible, supplement your resultant meagre income with cash-in-hand jobs. This might work for you.

My plan B, had I stuck around, was more aggressive; largely because I'm a motivated and vindictive bastard. The system as it currently stands isn't sustainable and doesn't deserve to continue, so do your level best to contribute to its destruction. Pay as little tax as you can while hoovering up any and all benefits available, from Obamaphones to food stamps. Take cash jobs wherever possible.

A reboot is desperately needed, and the sooner the current corrupted system is destroyed the sooner the rebuild can begin.

Well, not if you want to stay out of prison.

There are no debtors prisons in the US, but there is one debtor you are not allowed to not pay: the IRS. That's called "tax evasion" and it's an incarcerating crime. And the more money you make by getting a "high ranking job", the more you will pay in income tax, meaning you are still feeding the system that allows the feminist utopia to continue.

There's nothing short of renouncing US citizenship and leaving the country that you can do to evade the system. But if you choose to remain here, the most sane thing you can do in the meantime is not marry.

At least until single old spinster women start lobbying government for a bachelor tax.

How do you "ghost" and survive without the system?

Expat to another system.
Live in the countryside on your own small farm with solar panels/a generator. I guess you'd need "the system" for water unless there's a way to sort yourself out with an independent water supply.
Find a great tax avoidance scheme so you don't exit the system but can legally avoid paying your full liability into it as not to feed the system. Some very creative schemes in some jurisdictions can leave you with a liability as little as 1%, usually involves giving up your job (on paper) but having your wage paid into a charitable trust in a low tax jurisdiction and then loaned back to you at 1%. That one was working in the UK for a long time, not sure if that's still how it works. Find yourself a machiavellian accountant who understands the system in your jurisdiction.

Im going to assume these are three independent questions

1)I don't believe "ghosting" means to completely dislodge, it means to check out on the parts of society you're expected to participate in (pursuing women, achieving ever higher levels of professional and monetary success) and instead do what's necessary to live the life you choose.

2) Japan's demographic situation is a result of the birthrate beong far under the replacement rate (2.2 children per woman) for several decades. IIRC this is mainly because of single child and no child marriages, not a lack of marriages.

3) On a personal level, this might lead to a satisfying life, but as a tool of changing society, it simply falls flat. First of all, were it possible that all jobs paying over say 100k went exclusively to single men with no intention of marriage, the money would simply be taxed away. Second, even most RP guys aren't MGTOW, because they don't want to be. Its appealing for some, but its not a social or political movement. Its a personal one.
