Any high-salary engineers here with a mediocre undergrad GPA?

If you can decimate code interviews, and have demonstrable experience (interesting, detailed personal projects; good publicly available code on Github; etc.) they will overlook your GPA.

There is about 2 global firms who will reject you because of your GPA.

Engineer is rather vague, and also wrong unless you actually mean a PE type job, so I'm going to assume some sort of IT work.

I work for one of the largest private IT companies in the world and can assure you, anything above a 3.0 is the same. It gets you an interview, after that it is useless.

2.7 GPA (terrible student too) - In my 40s now making low 6 figures (near the top of the market for my area).

Most companies have a tier level (associate engineer, engineer, senior engineer, etc) and then a salary range for that tier (usually +/- $20,000 EG - an engineer base salary is $50,000 and their salary range is $30,000 - $70,000 for that tier).

If you don't have any notable skills/experience/jobs that you did while in college that are pertinent to the job you're being hired into then the GPA will be a bigger factor as to what tier/place on the range you get. But, even then, I think they'll just see you as "out of college employee" level and GPA isn't going to mean more than a few thousand dollars difference on the salary.

Once you're in - at two years you can "safely" jump ship and move on. Jumping to another company will always be the way to rapidly up your salary levels (as opposed to working within the corporate structures).

Also, once you've got your first job under your belt - It's all about what you did at your last company. Always be doing better/more complex work, always be doing something that's pertinent to the skills that are in demand at the moment.

Your GPA would be well above average for graduating engineers where I attended (top 10 US for engineering for perspective). I think average GPAs for many engineering fields are around 2.7-3.0.

You'll do fine.

I graduated with a 2.8, now I'm making $150k+ a year working from home in my pajamas (in a low cost of living city, too). GPA isn't important after they give you that piece of paper.
